bike rack
bike rack
What are people using to transport their mountain bikes with the fit. Im sick of shoving mine inside. I would prefer a removable rack for the rear hatch if such a device is avialible
The Fit is such a commodious vehicle or almost like having a minivan, I see no need for bike rack. It's even easier to fit my road bike in it than the 2007 Altima I had before. I don't even need to take the wheel off.
i has a roof rack

a few members have the hitch for the bike rack on the fit.. im not sure exactly where they got it, but ill search through posts

a few of my friend who ride bikes alot and travel with them use a hitch rack or fold down the seats. etrailer.com has a hitch for the fit for under $100 and it takes about 30min to install. They are also using a yakima rack in the back, there are several different ones to chose from depending on how many bikes you are hauling. We had three guys, two bikes on the hitch, one inside and alot of bike gear and traveled to an event 10 hours away comfortably.
DreaMv, do you see a a significant decrease in your mpg with the roofrack on or off. I had a jetta awhile back and could tell a difference.
Sorry, first post, long winded i know. but just transferred over from the offroad toyota forums

re
Moutain bikes tend to get dirt on the trail and I'm sick of having to clean all the dried mud from my interior every time I ride.
Yea i've seen some fits with roof racks. I had a trunk carrier that worked for my srt4 I was looking for something more like. something to only use when biking and compeletly and easily take off when not in use.
i think a hitch rack would work well then. Just one bolt to take the whole rack off.
It would be more expensive then the strap on rack for the back but would not leave any markings on the paint or glass. But its less than a roof rack.
I had a incident once with my vw jetta that i had a vw roof-rack on and i think i hit a turkey, goose, small animal that first hit my hood then slide up my windshield then when it hit the roof-rack it broke the front rack and pulled it out of where it held to the car. Left some bad dents on the top too.

I carry mine inside. It's modeled after the images below that I found a couple years ago and adjusted for my GE. Works great for my mountain bike or road bike, pop off front tire and it's in. I've carried 1 bike, and camping gear for weekend with room to spare, or can get in 2 bikes with less room for gear.
Cost for bike set up was around $12 including hardware (I had the wood piece lying around).
I have jdm rubber mats for the rear, so I've got no issues on wet/muddy tires.

Good luck

The advantage is;
- you can screw in the mounts wherever you like
- no need for tie down straps
- eliminates any chance of the rear wheel lifting sending the handlebars into the rear windshield
- you can now throw in a bag of cement without worrying about it going through that flimsy arborite and into into the spare tire compartment

I have a 29er and as such couldn't get my bike in without removing the front wheel, which I got sick of.
+1 on the hitch rack. You can pull it on / off real quick and easy, there's no damage to the paint, and you can haul a small trailer too if thats your bag. Plus when I buy a new car I take the rack with me, and use it on the hitch. The rack isn't specific to my car.

Re: the rubber mat, I bought it off of eBay under this title: eBay Motors: 2009 09 HONDA FIT JAZZ GE8 JDM CARGO MAT WATER PROOF
The listing is gone, I don't see any others listed and I couldn't find the sellers info, sorry. I bought this in early 2009, but haven't seen them lately, or even any discussion about them. For me it's been great.

Wow, that is all I can say to that. I have never seen a Fit tow anything before. What were you going to tow anyway?
One more question, where did you get your hitch system from?
