I'm an independent courier. About 300 miles a day between Tucson and Phoenix. 500 a day sometimes.
My last car was a Jetta TDI. 48mpg, but it killed me with maintenance costs. $1k for a timing belt every 60k miles, lots of turbo problems, etc. Of course I managed to sell that car for $5700 with 315k miles on it, so that helped, but the cost of ownership per mile was about $.16 between fuel, maintenance, and depreciation.
The Fit, as of right now, has cost me about $.18 a mile. Depreciation is the big part of that. Maintenance has been super low. Clutch and brakes at 150K, AC compresser and condenser, lots of tires, Mobil1. Had my first valve adjustment done yesterday and they really weren't even outside of spec.
Averaging about 32mpg (MT, usually cruising at about 83mph on the highway), so my operation costs have been around $.13 a mile. Add depreciation into it, and total cost of ownership has been about $.18 a mile.
Bought it used with 16K miles on it for $14.5K, and I figure I could get about $3K for it right now.
Sorry, I guess I just chose to do the math out loud. Hah.
Anyway, I hope to get about 400K miles out of this one, so if things keep clicking along at the rate they are, my final cost of ownership per mile should be about the same at the Jetta, but the value of driving an appliance, and not having to constantly worry about fixing the stupid thing is worth so much. Great little car.

That's great! Glad to know there's people out there getting high mileage with this engine already.

If you plan on getting over 250000 might want to fill up the tank :P

That's awesome. I really wish my wife would have sprung for the Sport model. Having no cruise while driving her car kills me on long trips.

I'm sure your car is worth more than 3k...

if you drive that much why dont you focus on stripping some weight on it such as getting some light weight wheels and losing the seats you dont use?

that is to many miles to be driving each day.

Wow 250K miles!!!

Kudos to you, I barely have 60K on my '07. But that will change dramatically in a few months when my daily commute goes to zero. I plan to keep my Fit until the wheels fall off as other above have planned as well.

Holy shit!!

What about the powertrain? Does it burns oil? Does it feels less ''powerful''? Oil changed when the minder told you so? Any bushings noises?

Marko!

You sold a car with 315,000 miles for $5700 and you're a courier? You should be President Obama's economic advisor.

I agree...we bought ours at the end of the 2008 model year...basic fit with manual transmission, no cruise and I wish now we would have held out for a 2009 or looked at other dealers for one with AT and cruise. Do your legs get soar after trips of 1 hour or longer?

Question

How long are you going inbetween oil changes and what filter have you been running

Congrats on the mileage but like someone mentioned before, get some gas, don't want that fuel pump running without any gas around it to keep it cool

Nice! Congrats, that's fantastic! It's also the reason I bought this car. While I only have 23k on mine, I'm expecting big numbers out of mine as well.

I have an Accord with 345k on it, just replaced the first alternator a couple weeks ago, it's very satisfying to have it still running so well (kids driving it).

I'll be interested to hear about your maintenance regimen, sounds like it will be a good model to follow...
