That's exactly what I do.

Heres what I do, clean the filter and while you are waiting for it to dry put a paper filter in the airbox for a day, save the paper air filter for the "drying" days and clean your filter with every oil change this will give you the best gas milage and its a thing ive been doing for years hope this helps...

^ I think an entire day is very excessive, but that certainly is a novel approach.

Also, where in little Rhodie are you? I lived in/around Bristol for a few years- love it Mark W.

i have a cone filter so i can't do that unless i have 2 filters.

it was a fairly simple process, as long as you have a few hours to spare to make sure everything dries without the need to drive, it's OK.

filter was a little bit dirty, hoping this'll improve my MPG!

This is what I do, or did before I bought my intake. Id much rather take some extra time for the filter to completely dry, but I tend to be a bit more cautious than most. When I have to clean the filter on my intake, I will just not drive car for a few days. Won't be anytime soon. I only have 32K on it now and its 3 years old...

Nope, will not improve your mpg with todays computer controlled fuel injection. Well maybe if your filter was completed plugged up but our cars aren't even old enough for that to be the case. Years ago with carburetors yes mpg and performance was affected even by partially blocked filters.

^ Not quite. While I agree that older carb'ed cars suffered more from even slightly clogged air filters, modern EFI systems still suffer when the air filter starts to clog- they're just better at compensating. A clogged air filter will still hurt fuel economy- Mark W.
