tire recommendations

Have a 2008 fit sport with p195/55 r15's stock dunlop sp' 37's M+s with 63k miles. I commute 80miles / day and am looking for a good handling tire that is not so sticky that I have to replace in in 20k miles though. I am not peeling out or cutting doughnuts, just going to work. I do like a good handling ride though. Any recommendations out there? Have lost 2 tires to side wall bubbles so I am not looking to go dunlops again.
Thanks. Will check back tomorrow. Good Night

This is how Consumer Reports rates Ultr High Performance Summer tires...

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric

Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

Continental Extreme Contact DW

Hankook Ventus V12 evo

any one of those would be a good tire.

But you can't get the Conti in a 15inch fitment so don't even look. I have had inorder of appearance: Stock Dunlops (dead at 28K ) Nitto Neo-Gen 205-50-15 (two sets, each dead at approx 33K) Continental ExtremeContact 205-55-15 (bought used lasted six months and 19K) And finally Kumho Ecsta ASX 205-50-15 (just installed 2weeks ago) The stock Dunlops are over-priced and under-performing especially in the wet. The Nittos are awe-inspiring in the dry, just so-so in the wet, barely better than the stockers IMO, and last well on a lowered car, which is what they are made for. And they are CHEAP! The Contis are the best all around four season tire ever made IMHO, If stinkin Continental hadn't stopped making them I would buy enough sets to last the rest of my natural life. These are the OLD STYLE extremecontacts, not the new DW or DWS. And just FYI they don't make the new ones in any size smaller than a 16" so don't waste your time. The Kumhos are so far a revelation, they seem to be every bit as good as the Contis, and still readily available. Only time will tell how they last and if they are any good in snow, but so far me likey. I have an 08 Sport manual with 94K on the clock, the last 75K has been lowered on Skunk2 springs Hope that Helps

What ever you do don't even bother with Goodyear Eagle GT's. They stick well on dry pavement and seem to be pretty good in the rain but the ride quality is so bad that I almost want to throw them in the garbage and start over. How's the ride on the Kumho's? I think next time I'll try the Yokohama Avid Envigor.

I got my '07 Sport new from the dealer with the 16" Accessory wheels...they had on the Duncraps that I was stuck with for the next 33K miles. They were real noisy and didn't stick that well. I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 in 205/45Z16. I loved those tires...They handled great and I could not get them to hydroplane...until they wore down to the ware bars on the tires. I then replaced them with the same Michelin PE2s but this time in 205/50ZR16...they worked the same and I liked them even more. The Michelin quit making any Pilot Sport tire in 205/50RZ16 so I got Contintal DW...they are not as precise as the Michelines.

Yokohama

I'm still on the SP31s but from the reviews and my past experience with yokohamas these will be my next tire unless something better comes out.

I think Jodele means 16" in all his tire sizes, not 15". The Kumhos ride as well as can be expected with a 50% aspect ratio. They are quiet, and don't screech or howl even when pushed to their limits, which are plenty high enough for public roads. There is a noticeably difference in impact harshness between a 50 series tire and a 55, something I wouldn't have believed until I felt it for myself.

i got a GD sport and i recently got a pair of tires came off of a base of a GE, it's lot skinnier than the GD sport stock tires, would that effect anything besides it's skinnier? it's basically 195/55/15 vs. 175/65/15. what do you guys think?

you were referring to my post?

secondly, would it look very odd tho with those skinny tires in the front? i am currently running 205's on the front, looks beefy. if i rotate them, i sensed the pic would look very odd. kind of tucked in the fenders, maybe?

How are they for road noise? We have Fuzions on their now and oh. my. GOODNESS are they loud. I've always had good luck with Kuhmos too, just not on this car. I'm going to be replacing these tires within the next 30 days.

Here we found the 175/65x15 to be excellent winter tire and 195/55x15 excellent summer tire (Dunslop SP's excepted).
Michelin has generally yielded the highest miles before needing replacement, the Star Direzzos the best performing.

I am also using them now. Much much much better than stock. Wet/snow traction improved a lot and I feel much safer in bad weather.

The Kumhos are the quietest tire I have had on the car thus far. They don't have any nasty noise tendecies so far. The Contis are quiet at first but very quickly start to roar at highway speed ( a consequence of the open tread design as I have been told) The Nittos had a very high pitched singing sound that got aggravating on long trips.
