Can anyone tell me what this is??
I noticed this when I did my independent fog light modification. Pardon my ignorance, but does any one know what this is?? It has a teal button on it and at the base has 3 wires running out of it Brown,Black,Violet then runs with the rest of the wires and from there I have no clue? I didn't notice when I bought it from the Dealer Last July. Any help would be appreciated.

try unplugging it to see what happens.
could be the imfamous Vtac switch which really shows the true potential of the l15 motor. |
Hey tblue,
There is another mystery switch one of us had this winter, but I forget what it was for, but I know someone here remembers!! Big Mike :D |
is your fit installed iwth a "karr" alarm?
|
Just the factory alarm. It's the 07 Sport.
|
Do you have a remote start? It might be the chip in the key.
|
No remote start..........Wait........ I remember when I was haggling at the Dealer they wanted to charge me for some add-on....... 400 bucks extra I think for some security thing. But I thought what? and said no I don't want that? Some mechanic guy came in then walk out with something the finance guy gave him? So long ago:confused:
|
did you buy the car used? cause that looks way too "DIY" to me.
|
Bro! I have one almost exactly like it. I have no idea what it's for either but I'm thinking somekind of alarm cause mine has a green light that flashes when the cat is off... But all I have is stock alarm... I'm starting to think now that it could also be a kill switch of somesort. Cause my prelude a button for a kill switch and that's all I used after the battery on the remote unlock/lock died. And the battery was somekind of special battery that's hard to find. I'm gonna try to use it like a kill switch tomorrow and see what happens

What happens when you push the button?

Don't push it. It is the passenger ejection seat button.
As the slots on either side allow for some adjustabilty I would same it is some DIY gadget |
It's been bugging me so I did some more research last night. Unfortunetly it's not an ejection seat could of used that during the Holidays!! When I push or hold the button. Nothing, Nada. I bought it used, yeah it looks like a DIY.
It looked like the top could come off so popped it off and wahlah there's an led in the center and to the right some prongs. SAM_0540 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! SAM_0538 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! I think..... Flipperlazo you might be right it could be a kill-switch or immobilizer?? Is this what yours looks like? |
Looks like a Karr alarm that the dealer installed but it's not active. My has the LED that flashes. When the key is in the ON position, hold the button and the LED will be steady. This puts it into valet mode so the alarm won't go off.
The dealer was probably trying to sell you the chip to make the alarm active. Mine works with my stock key fob that unlocks and locks the doors which also arms and disarms the alarm at the same time. |
^^^^thats what i must be! a karr alarm. theres a sticker on my passenger window that says KARR. i pushed the button and nothing. i press and help it while car is on, nothing. press and hold unlocked?car turned off key out of ignition and the green light on the the device stayed on and a red dot started flashing in the my gauge... whats the diff between a KARR alarm and and reg alarm?
|
Could be the valet bypass button. I've got a Viper alarm that has a button just like it.
|
^^^ whats that mean? what is the purpose and use of it?

A valet switch is a manual shut-off that temporarily disables the alarm system ( so you can let the valet park your car,*…
It's not too uncommon for them to screw up. Espeacialy if they are left on. Once they are on, the alarm will not function at 100% and you'll also not be able to change or reprogram the alarm. I'd take the car back to where you got it and have them explain exactly what is in your car. Even if it isn't functioning. After all it is your car, it's your right to know! Good luck mate! Let us know! |
looks like a kill switch to me. my friend has one that looks exactly the same...

Karr Security System
I am a six time Odyssey owner. When I bought my '08, a couple of days later I noticed a $195 charge on my contract for a security system. It was never discussed in the finance office. Plus, I trust this dealer to a great extent so missed it at the signing. I made a phone call and it was explained to me. The finance lady without any hesitation said she'd send me a refund check but the system would remain activated. It's a system they put on all new inventory and try to sell to each buyer. I suspect that if the buyer refuses they don't have to pay Karr for the system. This time (I bought a new 2014 a month ago) the Karr system was discussed and I told the finance mgr I felt I had no need or use for it. No problem and it was not put on the contract. But whatever hardware is involved is still attached to the car. I guess some unscrupulous dealers sell the Karr system based on scare tactics and charge whatever they think the traffic will bear. My dealer, Maita Honda in Citrus Hts. CA sells it for $195 but does not try to manipulate the car buyer into taking it.
I believe the Karr system makes it easy for a dealer to recover cars stolen off his lot which is one incentive he has to put it on all new inventory. And I'm sure the cost to him is nothing or next to nothing. |

On the plus side it does appear the Karr cheap trick is limited to the Southwest & California but the dealers here in SoCal are particularly fraudulent. The only reason I went for it on my 2011 Fit Sport is because the salesman and then the finance guy both said it didn't come with a factory alarm which turned out to be untrue. The stealer also charged me the higher LA county sales tax instead of the lower Orange county rate like they should have and it took me a while to recover the difference after I went through the paperwork and did the math. You have to watch them like a hawk and run the numbers yourself before signing anything. |
