GD3 Battery Replacement

Hi Guys, I bought an 08 fit S about a month ago and I noticed my battery doesn't hold much of a charge anymore. After reading some threads, it seams like the Fit battery is not a good one. Should I just but a new Fit battery or look into other options like the odyssy battery?

Thanks.

If it's under warranty still, get it swapped under that. If you're outside warranty, then you need to look at your options - OEM vs Odyssey vs different group - and decide based on your budget and goals. Mine was under warranty, only cost me about an hour of my time.

Yeah I'm no longer under warrenty. That's why I've been looking at my options. An OEM is around $80. But I'm willing to spend more if it will make a difference in the long run.

Group 51R, available everywhere, will fit (tightly). Pepboys has a 151R (direct replacement).

51r

Search for the 51R battery replacement threads. Get a more powerful battery for about $80 from autozone.

Yuasa batteries are really good paper weights. Other than that, I can't think of a single use for them.

Do yourself a HUGE favor and ditch the stock battery. There are a couple of threads going on the process of upgrading your battery.

Going to swap my stock battery to 51R today. Very tired of the weak stock battery. I'll report back on how my install goes.

Thanks guys. I just feel iffy about putting in a 51R if it is a tight fit. gnihcraes let me know how it goes.

To install an odyssy batt, the relocator is $90 and the bettery itself is $130. I'm wondering if an odyssy battery is that special to be worth $220.

Don't. It is a snug fit, but it DOES fit. You'll have to trim the lower battery tray (it's plastic, it takes 15 seconds with a good pair of scissors), and the upper battery cover. I completely removed the cover and all seems to be just fine.

I replaced the stock Yuasa about two months ago with a 51R. I wish I had done it sooner. I'm pretty sure 'yuasa' is Japanese for 'unpredictable time-bomb'. I've had nothing but rotten experiences with Yuasa batteries in both cars and motorcycles.

Ok, I put in the 51R battery today. I did trim the battery tray, essentially all that is left is the base and back of the tray. The battery fits, with about 1/8 inch on each side. Front to back there is plenty of room, same depth as the stock battery. Same height too. Overall is about 2 inches wider (left to right) than stock battery.

I didn't put the battery cover back on, I figured after trimming it to fit, there wasn't much point in using the cover.

51R is great, cranks faster, lights seem brighter, and the lights don't seem to dim when fans come on or the stereo is blasting.

Let me know if you need any photos. Not much to see, but I can post them.

I'd love to see photos. I've been debating on which one to buy, I've had my stock battery since the day that I bought the car and lately its shitting out on me. I can't have the radio on for longer than 10 minutes or I'm going to need a jump.

Just bought a 51R battery today. As soon as it stops raining (could be for days), I'll try to put in this thing.

Exactly what was happening to me.

I'll post up the photos tomorrow, it's too late now.

Okay, I tried putting in my 51R battery and it is a wedge fit. It is against the intake and pressed against the box on the right. I don't feel comfortable with the battery rubbing against other things.

Maybe the battery I bought is a little wider? I got the Autocraft Gold battery. I hope AdvancedAuto does returns on batteries.

I wouldn't worry about any rub, be sure it's centered and the battery holder is tight so it doesn't move around. It's only plastic against plastic anyway, it can't do much damage.

I'll post up pictures when I get home tonight.

Yeah nowhere close to me has it except for my local Honda dealer for "$140". I'm going to look into a Password:JDM Battery Relocator and an Odyssey 680 battery.

It is a much smaller battery under 15 lbs, but I wonder how a dry-cell benefits over the usual.
