HellaSupertone install

OK, I got the two horns...but, where the hell is the horn located in the engine bay of the gd3?.. I mounted them already behind the upper grille... I want to eliminate the oem one but use the same wires to eliminate a relay...:)

Bthasht 06-30-2011 10:58 AM

Dont quote me here Vinny, but i belive it will be behind the bumper. Probably above one of the foglights. Typical Honda.

Perrenoud Fit 06-30-2011 11:36 AM

Passenger's side behind the washer ressivor, gotta take off the tire and pull the liner down and there it is :D.

vinnymac 06-30-2011 09:54 PM

Mahalo much guyz....;)

solbrothers 06-30-2011 09:56 PM

Only have them mount'd right now, I'll probably hook them up this weekend - now that I know where the oem horn is located... I will keep ya posted....

solbrothers 06-30-2011 10:04 PM

wait, woo! lemme know how you wire it up. i want to do that one of these days

krakhed 06-30-2011 10:21 PM

GD3 right vinny? it's behind the passenger fogs. if your hands are skinny enough you can reach right in there and unplug it.

Perrenoud Fit 07-01-2011 06:59 PM

Haha Big Mike, no they did not have them in c/f, but don't think I didn't do a major search for them....:rotfl::rotfl:

Jamy 07-02-2011 12:30 AM

If anyone needs help with it send me a pm. I can post a sound clip of mine when I get home after work. Gonna try and get a write up for y'all. Just been extremely busy lately.

vinnymac 07-04-2011 07:12 PM

Don't know if anyone has tried this before....so I did it.:D

OK, finally got my 5, yes I said four hella horns and the oem horn hook'd. I ran them all continuously from the single positive wire that connects to the oem horn. Bypassed the relay and separate fuse altogether. Horns operate from the oem steering wheel. This was done without removing the front bumper cover, but the rear bumper cover had to be removed for mounting horns there via drilling holes for negative ground with brace of the horns.

Starting with the front two, which I mounted behind the the upper grill with heavy duty zip ties-no screws or hole needed here. I ran the + wire down through the engine bay to the + wire of the oem horn and spliced it and the + wire leading to the rear altogether. The front - wires were ground to the firewall becuz they can't ground themselves to plastic to which they are secured.

The two rear horns metal brace grounded directly into the metal bumper brace/support behind the bumper cover with screw. As I stated the +'s were connected to the oem + along with the front horns.(3 way + hook up)

So, now all 5 horns work simultaneously...you talk about a loud "sickening and nauseating" horn this thing is now..:hyper:

While testing my neighbors came out and said "What the hell are you doing over there...there are no trains around here, can you knock that shit off please!!!'':rotfl::rotfl:

I'll take some photo's and try to record the sound soon and post it...

They are Sickspeed ontop, the decibel levels are supposedly identical.... But, If Hella supertones are louder than these, then they got to be of the charts. :D I most definitely wouldn't need to go any louder, these Sickspeed's are already ridiculously loud..:D

fittacular81 07-04-2011 08:27 PM

So you got horns in the back bumper? Just curious as to why you would do that. I want to blast the fool in front of me, unless it's so loud it really doesn't matter where you put it?

I have a set of real Hella Supertones that I've been considering installing. So you just spliced the +ve and -ve from the horns to the OEM wiring and that's it? The Hellas come with a relay and other instructions on how to wire it up with a harness. Unnecessary?

I made this wiring diagram awhile ago when I did mine. They really should be hooked up to the relay, so the proper amt of voltage goes to and from the right spots. Ive seen people that dont use it blow fuses left and right when holding down the horns for longer than a second or two...

Cool thanks for the diagram. Should get off my lazy butt and install them. The stock horn is a joke for highway travel.

No, I'm not saying it's unnecessary, I'm just sayin' I didn't use them:D JavaFit's diagram is more likely than not the way it should be done....especially when you have 5 horns blow'n up!

But, I haven't had to hold down on the horn long enuff to smoke a fool off the highway yet....:D

haha yeah 5 is crazyy, i tried taking my shrouds off to paint them because the red diddnt really go with my theme but not all of my screws would come off aghh but its ok, because since then ive bought red candy chassis braces and just got my coil overs which are also red candy haha. so i guess my theme is now red white and blue lmao

Cool...I think you should mount'em. I don't think the red would throw yur blue and white theme off kilter.. Don't know what type of grille yur sporting but, the horns aren't overly visible thru mines.

Hum... would be interesting... but I have less than a week to buy anything and then install it.

I would love to add the other horns I'm missing (330 and 600 hz) get a bigger tone range.

Even though I've only got half of the set in, I've gotten plenty of people's attention... that is, until they see that I'm in a "small car" and choose to ignore me again, like that idiot that made me go up a curb the other week. I have no doubt he saw me... but he was in an SUV... and tried to bully me off the road. GRRRRR
