14"X6" 55+ Sub 10lbs wheels

Hello everyone.

I've been looking every where. And without going custom. Do these wheels (55+) actually exist?

Many thanks
Jason

SSR makes the Type C in 14x5 +45 and its around 7 lbs.

Why do you want such a high offset?

Cheers Mike.

Getting close and nice and light!

I wan't to keep the offset as close to factory as poss. 55+ for an 04 GD. Is that correct?

The reasons for this is that it twitchy enough as it is for all the reasons that make it a Jazz (low castor, high speed rack, electric power steering, high, short wheel base, etc) I know you already know this.

The last thing I want do is make it more bump steery. I'm not lowering it as I need the ground clearance for the farm. So short of increasing the castor it is not going to get any more sure footed. Maybe rear anti roll bar...

If I am going to put lighter wheels on (Primarily for compliance on our bumpy NZ roads) I want them to have the correct offset.

After 6" wide so I can keep my brand new 185s for now and replace with 195s next time.

Thanks

Hi guys.

I have seen a couple of ppl say that the offset of the standard GD 14" wheel is 55+ but I am having doubts. Had a rough and ready guestimation with the wheel on the car and I think it is more like 45+

Anybody know for sure?

Thanks

OK so I took the wheels off and measured them.

The standard steelies are indeed 55+ with a 56mm hub center hole and weigh in at 6.6kg/14.5lbs. Which means as far as I can tell any 14" non custom wheel is going to mess with the scrub radius. I'm sure it will have negative SR but how much will determine what offset I can run with out getting squirmy.

The worst case scenario would be loosing a bit of scrub radius from wheels with less offset to the point were it goes through 0 mid corner from tire deflection.

Does anyone know what the standard scrub radius on the GD Fits is?

Perhaps you speak of Kosei Ks Ts 14x6 or whatever but offset is 38 mm and weight 9.3# priced at $119 per at tirerack.. We have used thedm and found them very good wheels.
Honda Insights series one used a 14x5.5 /45mm offset wheel that weighs 10.5 lb.

Going to wider wheels with less offset will not make your Fit more 'twitchy'. On the contrary it will add stability. Thats based on probably 3 or 4 thousand aftermarket wheel/tire changes for customers. Check tirerack for verification. As for bumpy NZ roads, been there, driven there, and you cannot compare to many NY roads.
Lighter wheels are minor, its the weight of the tires that matters most.
PS the wheel backspace can affect twitchyness if its less on replacement vs original wheels but in the case of the kosei'sthat doesn't appear be a problem.

Like mahout said, -10 or even -20mm offset from stock is not going to make a bit of difference in bump steer on stock suspension with 60 series tires, any of the wheels suggested in this thread will be fine for you.

IIRC GD Sport wheels are indeed +55, but changing to +38 isn't an earth-shattering change.

I saw MNfit say
offset no lower then +45 and no wider then 7"
I guess that was mainly regarding fit rather than scrub radius effects.

mahout: Wouldn't lighter wheels have they same impact on sprung to unsprung ratio as lighter tyres. I was of course referring to bump compliance not rotational inertia.

Despite the safety considerations of ending up with positive scrub radius on a ABS car with diagonally split brakes I wouldn't mind the feel of positive SR. It is what I am used to. What I don't want to do is accidental get wheel with an offset that puts me too close to zero! Especially slightly positive that ends up zero mid corner. Any one that has driven a car with zero scrub radius (besides Citroen DSs) will know how horrible that is.

Does any one actually know what the factory scrub radius is for the GDs or have a front suspension diagram? Would be helpful.

Thanks
