15" steel wheels for winter snow tires on 2007 Honda Fit Sport

I am a very infrequent poster, but read here every once in a while, so please tell me if I can change anything about my posting to make it easier to answer.

I foolishly bought snow tires for my 2007 Honda Fit Sport 2 years ago. I say foolishly because I bought 15" tires thinking I'd get 15" steel rims to go with them later. Unfortunately, as many of you probably know, there are no stock 15" steel rims for this car. I should have bought 14" tires and 14" rims, but here I am with 15" snow tires, and I'd like to put 15" steel rims with them if I can. I've been doing some research.

It seems to me that what I'm looking for are 15"x6" wheels with a 4x100mm lug pattern designed for a 56.1 hub bore. The offset of my stock alloys is 55mm, which is not so easy to find. Am I right so far?

If so, my question is this: If I find wheels that satisfy all of the above conditions EXCEPT for the offset, are they usable? Is there a range by which the offset can safely vary? And if so, what is it? I may have found some 50mm offset wheels that match all the other specifications.

If anyone else has had luck using 15" steel rims of any kind on the 1st generation Fit Sport, I'd love to hear what they come off of and where you got them.

Changing the offset on a wheel changes the design moment and loading on the wheel bearings. That doesn't necessarily mean you're outside the allowable and "small" differences might be ok.

The rims I've found are a 50mm offset, compared to the stock alloys which are 55mm.

I meant I don't know if that 5mm (.02") difference will affect the bearings. In other cars I've read people change the offset and don't report any detriment. I'm only saying that you're changing the designed loading on the bearings slightly. .20 inches change isn't much on what's usually a half inch to 1 inch long roller wheel bearing. Just be aware of the affect of changing the offset, that's all.

Typically the center of the tire is in line with the middle of the roller bearing cage, so that the bearing doesn't see any bending, just an up/down load.

Find someone selling 09-12 Base Fit steel wheels. There's some in the classifieds here or you may be able to find some on Craigslist.

You will be fine with +50 offset if you found something FS already. Stock GD sport wheels are 15" with I think +55, the extra 5mm less is inconsequential to either fitment or bearing wear.

I've found Civic (01-07) wheels with +45 offset on eBay. Think those would be OK? Anyone know from experience?

The hub bore, lug pattern, and rim width and diameter all match.

I currently have some EP2 sport 15" standard steel wheels fitted to my Jazz, they have been issue free so far, they fit on perfectly, same centre bore hole size.

I can provide a pic if required, but i am very happy with the civic steels on my car.

They are $55 each, free shipping. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I buy tires from them frequently, they are knowledgeable and can answer all your questions about offset, etc. They are reliable and fast, very nice to do business with. I have a machine and mount and balance all my own tires for the eight cars I own.
