engine light on | car stutter in low rpms

Hello,

my engine light just came on earlier this evening and right away the car was acting funny. When accelerating in low rpms 2000-2500 (any gear) the car stutters and the car does the jerky jerk. No sign of leakage anywhere, no funny smells and the engine never shuts off.

5 speed with 72k on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

-Steven

The purpose of the engine light is to tell you that there is a trouble code. Go to an automotive store and let them read the code...its free. The code will then tell you what issue the car is having...rather than guessing.

Do you have a multimeter? if so go read how to diagnose ignition coils and pull them off your car and test each one individually

I'm aware of that and at that time I made this thread, the auto store was closed. I figured I'd post up and see what my FF friends say before I take it in the morning to determine what the trouble code is.

walmart is open 24hours in most locations. Would not hurt to have their $30 red and black multimeter! That is what I have and it has been one of the most impressive diagnostic tools in my bag! Has helped me determine and diagnos many friends' rides.

Also helped me determine why my lowbeams burned out twice before I realized aftermarket bulbs dont like low voltage daytime running lights like the fit has setup. Bye bye DRL fuse! Hello long life from $5 superwhite bulbs from ebay

I understand...nonetheless, get the code read when you can. I would recommend two things..one, don't do any work until the code is read, and two, do what I did and buy a good code reader. I got one that tells both the code and the description of the code. A little more expensive, but I figured that if I was on a trip I would want to know more than just the code. But either way, I recommend getting a reader.

k guys, I went to the auto store this morning and one code came back: ((P2647))

But to answer your question, the fit is ok. I got rear ended Wednesday morning by an old school Monte Carlo going about 15-20mph in stop n go traffic on the highway. Luckily, the the Fit only suffered minimal damage (the rear bumper has to be replaced) and I was placed on a stretcher for sharp neck pain. Long story short, Im ok, just a case of whiplash and I'm doing much better now. The kicker is, I have to drop off the car on Monday to get repaired (which will take 2-4 days) and I will be placed in a rental.

Did a quick search on our forums and found this -->

*** In the meantime, is it ok to be driving the car till I bring it into the dealership to get repaired?***

the answer is YES, its ok to drive the car to the dealership but I would not be driving it more than necessary.

I'm glad you're not pulling random parts off the car and trying to do a diagnostic. Buy a code reader with your insurance money...I have the Actron CP9550 unit.
