Should I pull the trigger on an 07 Fit?

Hi everyone! Im a long time Honda guy, over 20 years. Had probly 40+ lol.
Ive also, always done any and all work on them myself.
OK that being said I can pick up a 07 Fit that needs an engine for $1200.
The L15's that I have seen are between ($450-$1000). Ive done several civic/accord engine swaps ect...... My question is the Fit change over cant be much harder if any? Is there anything I need to be aware of to swap another stock engine in it? Is it possible to remove the cowl and pull the engine/tranny through the top? Im guessing I might have to drop the subframe? THANKS GUYS

1200? How's the condition of the car (besides the engine obviously)?

I'd totally go for it if it's only 1200, it would make a perfect K-swap candidate. Also much cheaper cause you're only paying 1200 for the car and it has no engine so there goes another hassle out of the equation.

Thanks for the reply. Everything is there in what looks like good condition. I mean the car is complete. Just has the seized engine. The owner had dogs in it so it will need a deep cleaning. I plan on just replacing with 1.5l. The only unknown is the actual mileage on her.

$1200 is a pretty awesome deal!

I def say do it! But why put the L series back when you can upgrade into a K or something?

You could probably try to unseize her as well, or parts from the motor, sell em' and go K-series!

So he buy's the car for 1200 and then spends 10k putting in a k-series? Buy a kpro, Build the L series, Turbo it and boom with forged internal he can have 250 hp and none of the piggyback hassles.

Honestly, how many people have even built the L15? I personally haven't seen any completely built L15s, just a bunch of "hey im gonna build the l15!" and it doesn't happen.

According to people that have tried, the heads can't be ported safely limiting the potential of the L15 even more.

The cost is probably in the same ballpark as the K-series.

If your looking for a daily driver i'd say jump on it quick.
You don't need to throw a k in it even if you end up getting a l15 for $1000 that would still put you at 2200 for a 2007 Fit!!! But it is your money of course you get the last say. Good Luck, and Have Fun!

Thanks for all the great reply's. I have had some quick honda's and the current one is an 86 SI HB. Right now it has a B16 in it. In a few months I am doing the 98+ type r swap to it. Should be fun. Anyhow, yea just looking for a new daily driver. So stick a 1.5 with low miles and drive the poop out of her. Once I get her running good and trustworthy I then will sell my current DD 07 civic EX. I've had a K before and I just dont want to pour money into the Fit like that. Once I get the Fit in the drive I will show her off. Thanks

sure why not

i'd say yes, the cost/risk is low. and the gain is large. what ever you learn along the way while getting 'er back on the road. is a total win. .. i'd love to have jumped into something like that.. all the more reason for a k swap.. you are already half way there =) .. or a quarter there.. good luck man.

Even a stock 2007 Fit is fun to drive. I have had one since May, 2006 when they were first imported to the US and have loved it ever since. I bought a 2012 Civic Si in August, 2012 and drive the Fit daily while the Si just sits in my garage because the Fit is so much more fun to drive. Slower, but more fun. Good luck!

I pulled out and replaced an 07 engine only, with the tranny remaining. It was relatively undramatic. I went from the top.

Just traded my 2004 Subaru WRX for a 2007 Honda Fit and I must say there is a ton of room! The mpg, I haven't gotten the full effect yet since I have literally hit like every damn red light possible.

Damn! That's still really good for a 1200 dollar car, just needs some interior work.

How's it going now? That was one dirty interior, but a good day of cleaning should put it right. Have ya put the new motor in yet?

That interior looks pretty disgusting. Still though, at $1200, hard to pass.
