Electrical problem?

Electrical problem?

Hi guys,

Got a problem with my 2007 fit. Sometimes the alternator charged the battery, somtimes not.

We changed the alternator but i'm still having the same issue.

I check the fuses, alternator strap, all the connections and everything seems to be fine.

I can't run with the car now because of this problem.

Someone told me about the ELD but is it possible that my honda fit do not have the ELD? If there is one, where will it be located?? It is not in the fuse box under the hood...

Any helps will be appreciated!

The ELD is built into the ECU, I think. I may be wrong.

Check the connections to everything—in particular, the ground connection from the battery. I would suspect a bad connection before a breakdown in the electronics, though certainly the latter isn't impossible.

The Bernardi Parts site shows "Detector Unit, Electronic Load" , # 11. By the LF wheel.

However, you don't mention your Battery's history.

Even a newer battery could have a shorted cell. Has it been load tested?

I tested the battery several times using a multimeter and looks good to me. Is there other ways that i can test it?

Bring the battery in to a parts store for a load test. Testing with a multimeter does not put it under any sort of a load. Many stores will do a load test for free.

Triple-check the battery connections. Maybe you need shims for the battery posts; there are some slightly different sizes out there. Maybe the frame ground connection is poor or rotted away. Maybe a wire is corroded by one of the connectors, enough to cause poor contact but not enough to physically fall off.

Also, an intermittently shorted battery cell could be difficult to tell on a load test.

Had one in another car 10 years ago that took out three alternators before we thought to change out the recent battery.

I tried another battery and got the same problem so i think we can eliminate a battery problem.
