'07 & '08 Airbag recall

Looks like Honda has added the '07 & '08 USDM Fits to the airbag recall. Passenger side only and only for certain states.

The Honda Owners site states that there'll be Takata recall info listed for our cars there after June 6th. If you don't already have one, I recommend creating an account there: https://owners.honda.com/

I just ran my VIN on Honda's site. My '07 is being recalled for a passenger air bag. The site also said it would be late summer/fall before parts are available.

FWIW, I was T-boned by a red light runner at high speed a few months ago in my GD3. Three air bags deployed and prevented serious injury. This was drivers side only, of course, but rest assured those drivers side bags worked just fine.

GD airbag Recall

Unfortunately American Honda only offers Rentals/Loaners if Driver Bag is affected. There's no switch to turn off Pass bag-can you just un-plug
the weight/pressure sensors in seat(and live with the warning light?)

I got my letter a few days ago and called my dealership for something unrelated and they saw that I'm due a recall. Service guy said he might me able to get me in a loaner car for the day, but I declined because I like not having to do anything because I'm at the dealership for 2-4 hours. It's 2-4 hours of peace I get.

Loaner sounds great; however my letter says the replacement bags will not be available until the late August. The advantage of this procedure to get ECU re-flashed with newest version of software (this is what dealer likely does instead of doing idle re-learn).

ECU reflash, you say? Note to self, take FlashPro with me to be able to get home after dealer flashes stock map back to not stock Fit.

Whut? No. No reflash of anything will be done.

I seriously doubt anyone will relearn idle for you either. If the battery is not disconnected to do the work, there is no need.

The battery has to be disconnected for 3 minutes prior to this work! Doing the work on the bag requires several connectors to be separated including one that controls drive by wire system. Otherwise the screw that retains a bag assembly to the cross bar will not be removed.

Of course the battery has to be disconnected to do the work.....according to the instructions.

The instructions are not always the reality.

The only electrical connection that will be touched is the one for the passengers inflator assembly. Nothing else needs to be disconnected.

I wonder if anyone has actually had the passengers inflator for a 07-08 Fit replaced yet......
My inflator was ordered the day after the Fits were opened up to the recall list, and it was already on eternal intergalactic backorder. The part could be released in a couple weeks, could be a couple months...nobody knows for sure yet.

I removed the bag on PYP (just to analyze what can be damaged by incompetent mechanic during bag R&R) and had to disconnect connector to reach for the screw

There's no mention of having to disconnect anything but the airbag connector in the FSM/ESI, and if you flop open the glovebox the airbag fasteners (3 nuts) should be unobstructed.

Disconnect airbag connector, remove 3 nuts, pry the unit up and out of the dash.
Oh yeah, disconnect the battery first and wait 3 minutes

I don't have my GFs car to look at right now, but I can see the bottom of the airbag mounting bracket in this googled pic, looks like there is nothing is in the way to me..

Finally doing these now.

It's a pretty straightforward remove and install of the airbag unit.
