MR. LS400's 07 MR GD3 (Sophia)

So it has been a long time since I built a car and done a build thread, but I absolutely love the GD3 chassis and have wanted to build one since I sold my first one way back in the day.

I've owned the car for a about two years now and most of the mods that have been done were me taking advantage of an opportunity to upgrade worn out components, but I also plan on making it a purpose built car that I can take to the track and have fun in.

Here is my last build before I took a leave of absence from the Honda Community:

Here is how the Fit looked the night I purchased her:

How she Currently sits now:

Obviously the first things to go were all the 5hp stickers lol. I ended up picking up a nail in one of my tires which was unrepairable so instead of buying new tires for 14" wheels I thought I would get a new to me set of wheels:

16x7 +35 Volk SE37's powder coated Mag Blue:

You can't have nice shoes without the proper strings:

I also got tired of scraping going in and out of my driveway and the Skunk2 Pro-C's were completely seized up so I thought I would buy some new coilovers. I tried to buy another set of the Skunk2's, but they weren't available anywhere so I went with the Buddy Club N+ with Whiteline Performance Sway bar adjustable end links:

SE37 are a great choice.

The color combo is a bit different, but I've seen worse

Welcome!

I also purchased the J's racing extended ball joints, but found out afterward that the JDM ball joint diameter is smaller than their USDM counterpart so if anybody knows how to get them to work with the USDM lca's or the JDM lca's to work on our cars that info would be great:

Loaded down family trip from VA to MN and back:

After that long as haul loaded down with all that cargo two adults and one baby, the Fit was definitely put through her paces. When we were getting back into the hills of VA we went from doing 75 on 95 to doing 45 with the pedal to the floor so that I when I knew it was time for a major upgrade. Which leads me to my time consuming, headache having, deployment enduring, shitty ass shop dealing almost complete situation I am in right now...

Mike410b thanks brother! I don't mind the color combo, but some of the coating is chipping around the center cap holes so I will end up changing the color eventually.

I’ve wanted to do this swap since I saw it done back in07, K20Z3 with matching trans:

Some pics of the car on the lift:

Pics of the start of the header, these are the last pics I was able to take before I deployed:

Thanks brother! I have a lot more in store for this build as well.

So as I was saying I went through a lot of headache and frustration with the shop that I originally went with. I will save you the trouble of reading 8 months worth of my agitation but here are a few of the things I dealt with. A complete shop relocation, multiple partner changes, multiple shop name changes a complete ownership change, and my least favorite sheer laziness. Finally after a lot of back and forth we get the call that the car is ready to be picked up. More to come on that as well, but here are a few of the things that were completed.

Modified Hybrid Racing Shifter box to fit center console with old school Skunk2 weighted shift knob (You can also see my Flashpro on the floorboard as well) lol:

Custom 3" exhaust with Flowmaster Muffler and V-band clamps. I went with the dual outlet muffler because I want to put on Stainless tips like what was on the Megan muffler I had on the car:

Last thing I got from the shop before my buddy went and picked up the car for me. 193 whp 142 ft lbs tq on stock internal motor with PRB im, custom intake, header, 3" exhaust and Flashpro:

Seeing that made me think that everything was good to go, but little did we know... While my buddy was driving the car back to my house he told me that not only did the gauges not work, he smelled exhaust inside the car. After doing a little digging we found out that the wire harness wasn't installed completely and they never manufactured the a/c blank off plate:

That isn't all. I immediately had the car taken to Shawn at Rameybuilt in Virginia beach and they have since found and fixed multiple issues with the car which included:

1. ABS module was not secure
2. exhaust had no flex pipe and was one entire piece
3. Reverse lockout doesn't work
4. Shifter box was not in proper alignment

Needless to say we have all other issues straightened out with the car, but we still have to address the issue with the gauges. I thought since I am having this issue I would go ahead and have the Racepak IQ3S installed, but there is still no communication with the ECU and the gauges. We have been working with Brian from Hasport and he is completely stumped on what the issue could be as well. He is thinking we might have to end up switching to the dual ECU setup if we can't get this issue sorted out. I will be returning from deployment within 30 days as well so it will be easier to understand what is going on and provide updates.

Awesome! Sorry for the issues you've had, but damn. I'd love a K series Fit.

Where in VA do you live?

It's all good, once we get this last bit sorted out she is going to be one heck of a car to drive.

I live in VA Beach, but am moving to Iwakuni Japan in April.

Thanks, and I will be sure to post updates as soon as I have some. I feel you on the K, I've been wanting to do it for quite a long time so I decided to just pull the trigger and get it done.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm hoping to finish this thing up sooner rather than later, but am still having issues with the wiring.

It's been a while since I have provided an update, but since my return from deployment, the holidays and just trying to get back into the swing of things I haven't had the chance to get on here. I have done a lot of little things to the car to try and troubleshoot my issues, but didn't think of taking pictures along the way to document my progress. I am still having issues with the gauges, so if there is anybody in the Virginia Beach area who is an electronics guru and is willing to help out I would greatly appreciate it since that is not my area of expertise.

This is what I am looking at, a Racepak with nothing displayed on the dash:

I noticed there was no overflow tank installed so I found a place to mount the factory tank:

Sorry to hear about the shit shop experience. I can definitely appreciate the goal though! What's the latest with the car? Were you able to get the wiring sorted out? I'm getting ready to head down a similar K20 path...

It's all good, I am over being upset with that shop and am fixing/enjoying driving the car as I go. With work and the preparation for the move I haven't been able to get as much done on the car as I'd like. I have fixed my leaking door issues and sorted out a few other things and will update with pictures when I get a chance. I have seen a few "fixes" threads on sorting out the door leaks, but am thinking about doing a diy thread on how I did it. Hasport is still working on the gauge issue so there is no update there, but I have been on the fence of going standalone to get everything working the way I want to. Good luck on the K swap, I will say that all the headaches are worth it once you get to drive it.

Good to hear, some things aren't worth hanging on to. I haven't had door leaks on a GD yet but I can say that the 3M weather strip adhesive is good stuff. If we were a bit closer geographically I would offer to diag your setup, having it done remotely just adds time and some frustrations. Hopefully Hasport gets it sorted soon! Thanks for the luck, my swap is still a month or two away. I'm still amassing parts and trying to decide whether I want to tackle a JDM CL7 or JDM EP3 K20A swap. CL7 has many perks but getting the VSS sorted is the potential headache... You're right about the headaches being worth it on the first drive though! I'm pretty hellbent on running the stock cluster too, so dual ECUs is in the cards. But we'll see, I haven't even bought an engine yet.

What are your reasons for standalone? Just the cluster issues? Already having Hondata puts you squarely in the driver's seat. IMO find someone local with solid wiring knowledge and save the money on going standalone. I'm sure you've already put more $$$ into the swap than anticipated.
