TIR VIP Dual Tip Muffler for GE8
TIR VIP Dual Tip Muffler for GE8
Alright guys, Finally got some time to sit down and do a write up of this bad boy.
So I finally got around to getting a new exhaust for the Fit. Went with the T1R VIP cause of the sound and the fact that it was the only dual tip on the market that I could find and I love the dual tip look. Ordered it from Jason at A&J Racing who really helped me out with it.
Taking off the old exhaust was almost a piece of cake. Just two little bolts right in front of the rear passenger side tire. I think they were 13 mm bolts not positive. Unscrewing took a bit but after that just a little tug and the muffler was loose. The Rubber hangers were a straight up bitch to get off. I ended up spraying them with some WD40 and jamming a small flat head screwdriver in the hole to convince them to let go.
Now this isn't really a DIY as the modifications needed to make the exhaust fit the bumper are not "one way only". I have mine set up differently than the way A&J had theirs set up. I decided to only vaguely follow the template that was sent with the muffler to make sure it looked exactly how I wanted it. I really just cut a long the template but stay about a centimeter inside of it to give it a really flush look.
First time didn't really work so I took my dremel and fitted the sanding tip to it and cut it down some more and then test fit it to see how much clearance I needed.
The cut I left it at was too close and it did melt the bumper.

However it didn't mess it up too bad and I was able to just peel it off and it was fine and since then hasn't melted anymore of the bumper.
Once I got it where I wanted I just used the old bolts and the new washers (old muffler had nuts welded onto the bracket) to tighten it down. Slip the hangers through the rubber holders and you're set. All in all took about 2 hours to get it all set and cut.
Final thoughts:
Muffler sounds amazing to me *SOUND CLIP*. It's not loud to me, but I had a billy boat on the M5 and that shit was loud so I guess it's all about perception. I do think I will be getting a T1R B-pipe in the future to get it all done.
Performance wise it felt like there was a little more in the top end. Not a whole lot but noticeable for me.
If anyone has any questions just leave a post or PM me and I'll be glad to answer them.

I just wasn't feeling it like that. Can always cut more. You can't put back what you cut though. So I'm just going with it for now. May alter it later.
I think the easiest fix would be the JDP diffuser. Haven't tried. But that's what I'm thinking.
I can email one to you if you'd like. Youtube keeps telling me it "failed to convert" or some shit..
Just a 20 second clip. Not too big. Sent it to your email.
Listening to your exhaust on iTunes is weird lol, well no car to see and all.
But, damn! I wish the other members could hear this. I've had it on loop now for about 3 minutes and it's really addicting! I can hear it backfire
Can't wait for the actual vids. Thanks for the sound clip Jon!

I do need to get the B-pipe done too. And then maybe a find a decent header weapon-r isn't really street legal..
Finally! Had to add some pictures so it would qualify as a "video" to youtube. Like I said, real video tomorrow sometime.

And no I was not able to take off the parts sadly. I wish I could have though. Would have been able to make a couple of bucks easily.
