Cheap(er) sri that's actually worth the money

Just got my 09 fit, I know theres a ton of info in the search option, but it seems its always a different year, with a different car, with different mods.. so thats why im asking here. Im not looking for performance upgrades on a 117 hp car, I just want it to look clean under the hood. atm my battery is at an angle, and the stock airbox is pretty bulky.. I dont want any codes popping up, so I will pay the premium for having my 51r battery be straight in the tray, to possibly gain a few hp and mpg...

suggestions are open

PRM or K&N will give you plenty of room in the bay. They both cost about the same, $240 or so. You could also DIY one, but IMO doesn't look as nice. There's DIY intake threads on here everywhere if you want to go that route, just search for it.

Or get the Takeda CAI for 208.99

will that have enough room or "work" with a 51r battery?

I would like a short ram, as the minnesota winters can really gum up a cai.. been there done that :/ So of those two is there a better one?

and as far as the DIY intakes go, has there been one proven to NOT throw a code? Maybe I havent searched enough, but all the recent ones ive seen throw a code

Lots of good reviews on both of those intakes, I just run the stock box with panel filter because I don't think $250 for an intake is a good investment for me... none of them make much power over stock and I don't like that much noise. However, I can understand wanting to have a little more room in the bay with the 51R. I like the little heat shield K&N gives you, the ducting on the hood flows into that box from what I can tell so that's kind of cool.

DIY intake shouldn't throw a code if you build it right, there's really not much to it on these cars they're so short. Just keep the MAF location as close to the stock location as possible and you should be fine i'd think.

Here's a really good thread on intakes from a while back when people actually talked about technical stuff on here :rotfl:

Some of the pics are broken but the discussion is still relevant.

If you use the mass air flow tube from the stock airbox it will not throw a code. The trick is that the inside diameter of the tube has to be exactly the same as the stock diameter. There are a few aftermarket tubes that people have tried to use, but they're not exactly the same diameter, so they throw codes. I went the DIY route and mine has been running fine for about a year now with no codes. I did order a replacement air box cover from Bernardi parts to cut the MAF tube out of, so I have the complete stock airbox assembly intact in case I ever want to put it back on. My total cost for all the parts including a K&N cone filter was around $100, but you can do it for much less. Here is a great thread on going the DIY route with several different install options that people have posted:

Don't expect any real power gains from any intake though because the engine computer is going to just dial out any gains you get. It does make the Fit sound more like a sports/race car when you get on it though. Driving around normally and on the highway it sounds basically identical to the stock airbox setup, so it's not annoying at all.

Need to add +1 plugs with the CAI to take full advantage so ECU can bump the timing. Also run 91.

There was one on one of the FB groups the other day. HPS or something like that? Under $200 and tucks neatly in the back of the engine bay.

The ecu will not just dial out gains. Extra air means it will use extra fuel. The ecu will maintain AFRs.

I spent $15 on a 2.5inch coupler and 2.5inch filter on ebay. cut teh factory topbox that has the MAF tube, and boom, you have a short ram intake that puts the filter right where the airscoop under the hood directs it to.

going to colder spark plugs and using 91 or 93 octane fuel will give you more benefit
