Thumbs up APEXi Smart Accel Throttle Controller - Installed in my GE8

After spending a day in my friend Jeff from Micro-Image's Toyota IQ (http://www.microimageonline.com) with the APEXi Smart controller installed I was impressed with both the Eco and High Throttle modes. I had him order the same for my GE8 and was able to document my install.

The controller has 7 Setting Modes: (3 ECO Modes, 2 Boost Modes, Lo-Throttle Mode, and Hi-Throttle Mode).

I have spent significant time with the Eco modes and I now drive around with the most extreme Eco modes (for stop and go traffic) and the middle Eco modes for normal driving. Freeway merging or passing I drive around in the High-boost mode and it completely opens up the power of the car and removes any lag in throttle.

Here is a photo of what you get with the kit (Control Unit, toggle switch, directions, and Throttle linkage)

I removed the Fuse panel to determine what kind of installation I could work with and realized I had a good amount of space to mount the box

First thing I did was uninstall the OEM throttle and placed the APEXi cable between the two connections

As you can see there was quite a bit of extra wiring that I tucked behind the carpet to hide

I was then able to place the control box on an empty section of the panel (affixed with some double-sided tape)

I then focused my attention on how I was going to mount the controller switch, that is when I realized the fuse cover has a hole at the bottom which the cabling could run through

Then I remounted the Fuse cover and checked all my clearances

Success!

Matches the interior well

Final setup, works really well and is pretty subtle!

Nice writeup! You talked about the performance a little bit, but does it make the Fit feel more powerful? I know mine feels much peppier when I use the paddle shifters just because it's much easier to hold the lower gears longer and really rev the engine without having to floor the accelerator.
Also, do you think it has made a difference in gas mileage?
Thanks,
Dustin

Found both the controller as well as the wire harness new on amazon.
Apexi also has them both on sale it seems currently from their website.

The included directions with the unit are terrible, you guys can reference a more detailed manual through the APEXi website here

Hey Dustin,

This is different than switching to manual-mode with the paddles since this unit intercepts the signal from the pedal to the throttle body and it allows you to either remove all lag or add lag to the pedal.

The higher "boost" modes really open up the performance of the car and make the pedal alot more responsive by increasing whatever input the pedal is submitting and increasing it by whatever mode you have it in.

The Eco modes are really effective because they force you to drive more economically by adding lag to the throttle response. I have noticed a several mile increase right away and have noticed myself driving more effeciently to maximize those results.

I hope that helps

Thanks Ken!

You need to do an "initialization" and you can see how to do it by referencing section 9 in the manual that I posted above

I just got this installed. First thing I realized is that unlike the d1 spec and the other tc for sale here on the forums, this unit doesn't require any external power or take up the ODBII port to get it's power.

The actual device is actually quite small (smaller than my tweet crossover).

Installation and programming literally took like 10 mins. I actually kept re reading the manual because I thought I must be missing something, but it is very simple.

Don't have much drive time on it yet other than sitting in traffic, however the eco 3 mode feels very similar to the eco buttons found in most newer honda's. On my way home tonight I will mess around with the sport settings.

I wish I could try one of these personally before buying it as its not exactly cheap. I already average 45mpg on my MT, and I am not a slow driver (firm believer in getting up to speed quickly and being efficient in maintaining that established speed). My preconceived notion is that the eco modes wouldn't gain me anything other than frustration levels. I am somewhat interested in the performance modes because my floormats slightly inhibit Wide Open Throttle (and installing the mugen gas pedal looks like that would exasperate that). I'd really not like to chop up the mats or grind down the pedal to accommodate, I was kinda thinking if their remapping in one of the performance modes would set WOT at something like 85% of pedal travel, that I could accomplish what I need without damaging anything else, then I would totally be game. Can anyone confirm info on the mapping functions?

big props on the writeup, very nicely done and definitely a clean install that should be del facto for everyone.

Was this a "Plug and Play"? What is the part number you ordered?

Awesome

The high throttle modes are definitely alot of fun, night and day difference for me

Thanks for the compliment, I tend to over-think my mods and tried to put alot of detail into my instructions.

I believe you would find that the Eco modes are very helpful since there are 3 settings of response you can select. The Manual I posted contains throttle mapping adjustments that the controller allows you to select. Some of the settings are either used for initial acceleration or increased power across the entire power band

No splicing or need to run external power, the unit is powered by the pedal cable connection

Part # for the controller is 410-A001
You also need the Harness which is part # 417-A020

Here is the graph from the manual, as you can see depending on the mode you either have initial throttle changes or changes over the entire throttle range

It seems by the graph that "Boost Mode" would aid in heel/toe shifting. You've convinced me to purchase one.

I'm VERY interested in getting this for the 2015 Honda Fit CVT. Glad it worked out for you well. I have a Sprintbooster on my RAV4 and that thing is awesome to say the least.

I'm really wanting this. Hoping it doesn't throw a code like my Sprintbooster did when I tested it on the Fit. Do you think it'll work on the 2015 Fit with CVT? I know the CVT should be fine since it's not doing anything to the transmission but I'm asking just in case I'm missing something.

I'm thinking of ordering from here.

I would email APEXi just to make sure that you won't have any issues.

Also, you can order directly from APEXi while you are at it and note that you will also need a Honda specific harness as well as the controller

I didn't know this. Thanks! I'll be sending them an email.

I realize I'm bumping an old thread, but this is the best one that pops up when I search the forum.

I installed this same kit in my GE8 and the initialization went correctly as defined in step 9.

However, I cannot change modes at all. Pressing "." or "..." does not change colors. The light is just slowly flashing white. Car still starts and runs and everything is like stock. No CEL or anything. It just doesn't seem to work.

Anyone who has this installed experience this behavior? What am I missing?

Yeah, the pedal harness is all hooked up. I was able to do the calibration fine (that is, push "." it flashes blue then fast white, let go, push "..." and 100% throttle and it flashes red, then goes off). I was able to do the reinitialize process as well and redo the calibration.

That all works. Car starts fine and throttle still works and everything is normal. Except the button just slow flashes white and pressing anything does nothing. It also never shuts off. After the car is off, it just stays on. I gave it 10 minutes and it still didn't shut off. Instructions say that's not a malfunction, explicitly.
