DIY: Leather E-Brake Cover
Just finished making a e-brake cover for my Fit and thought I would post a quick DIY.
Time: ~1 hour
What you need:
approx 1 sq ft Leather.
Nylon yearn/thread
exacto knife
access to a sewing machine
Start by sketching the rough outline onto the back of the leather:
Here is a sketch with dims:
Once the sketch is transferred cut out using exacto knife:
You will need to sow the top and bottom sections by folding them over (3-4mm) and running them through a sewing machine (mine turned out OK at best, get your wife girlfriend to help you for better results )
Now fold in each of the sides about 3-4mm and bring them together. I used an office clip to hold it in place. Thread your nylon yearn through a needle and start sewing the two sides together:
When done tie off the end and you should have something like this:
Now just slide over your e-brake handle. It will be tight but will fit. Once on it should look something like this:
I know this same thing is avail to import from Honda. But the leather and yarn was less than $10 and doesn't take too much time to make.

Here's a piece of unwelcome advice...
You can sew it while its inside-out so that when you flip back, the threads won't show (as much). This way, you can use a sewing machine to make it easier (you'll need the stronger threads). Of course, it means the fabric has to be flexible enough for you to "un"-invert it.
And/or you can make the top like a "valley" instead of a hill and just put the sewn side facing down (underside of handle).
Personally, I like it no thread showing... just nice and smooth.
