2012 Console Light in 2011

2012 Console Light in 2011
I looked into what is different between the 2012 and the 2011 to see what would be required to make a factory change to add the new console light. For those of you unfamiliar with this it is a light that was added for the 2012 models that lights up the center console cup holders. Unfortunately it is integrated into the instrument wire harness that controls most of the dash components, not just an add-on wire (which I know you could easily add but I am just doing this to show that fact).
The 2011 Fit Wire harness (Part #2) is part number: 32117-TK6-A60
The 2012 Fit Wire Harness is: 32117-TK6-A61 ($543.45) and it includes a bulb (14v 1.4w P/N 35505-692-003)
The cover assembly that allows the light to shine through the dash onto the console is a different part number as well.
2011 Cover Part Number: 77290-TF0-003ZA
2012 Cover Part Number: 77290-TF0-G01ZA ($7.25)
Just did this as an FYI so that anyone curious knows that it won't be as nice as a plug and play oem connection if they want to add this to their 09-11.

WHOA. that's a huge difference.
good question. i have the OEM ambient footwell lighting and i find it dim during city driving but i have to turn it off when i'm driving through dimly lit roads at night. it would be nice to have it dim along with the instrument cluster using the dimming knob.

Niko, a DIY in the works? How ya been?
I'm about to install a small LED in the location of the console light when I do the Homelink w/sunglass holder mod. I figure, I'm gonna be running wires anyway for the ambient light (on the homelink unit), might as well wire an LED to match on the console.
Definitely would be nice to have them dim with the light dimmers.

Been good. Thanks for asking
Home link DIY is a little of a bitch. make sure you take your
time and also have the whole day set to do it. at first for
me it was scary cutting a hole in my headliner. one mistake
with the razor blade and its all over. So just take your time.
I don't know about a DIY yet for the console lights. If i did
one id def wouldn't be dim-able.
Does anyone know if this
2012 Cover Part Number: 77290-TF0-G01ZA ($7.25)
already has the led's on there?

Thanks for the advice, as always it's greatly appreciated. I was hoping to do the homelink w/sunglass holder (& Nav mic), intermittent wipers, LED console light (above the front center cup holders), and change both air filters, and all wiper blades in one day. Look's like it will be a full weekend project.
From further research (info from hondapartsunlimited.com) their prices are usually the lowest.
Here's the 2012 Cover:
Product ID : 77290-TF0-G01ZA
$7.25
Sale Price: $5.09
and 2009-2011 Cover:
Product ID : 77290-TF0-003ZA
$5.75
Sale Price: $4.04
The difference is about $1. My theory is that the 2012 piece has the cut out, and maybe mounting clip/bracket for the LED, but the LED is a seperate item. And after searching the 2012 parts I found this 35505-692-003 BULB (14V 1.4W) $1.38 (same part as OP posted) I can't get the parts diagram to post in this thread but it's part 6 on the wire harness 3 parts diagram. It looks similiar to the parts diagram on the OP's post, but where the #2 is there is also a #6, that's the part for the LED bulb.
Incidentally the same website has the wire harness for $381.50. Still expensive.
I wonder if the LED dims as well.
If not, wouldn't there be a way to tap into the lights that do dim, and make the center console LED dim?

I have a red 3mm LED with a holder to put there as well as one to wire in between the map lights with a map light unit from a Nav car. Then I'll add some white LEDs under the dash for footwell lighting all wired up to the OEM ambient lighting switch I have.

lmk when you do this, because i need some help figuring out how to attach the led wires to the oem switch, that's all that's stopping me from installing mine.

Update
For those pre-2012 GE8's here's the parts you'll need to make this mod work.
Needed parts
77290-TF0-G01ZA ...COVER ASSY., CENTER (2012 w/ LED cutout)
35505-SA5-003 ......SOCKET ASSY., BULB (14V 1.4W) (BASE:BLACK) (NS) (LED holder)
Optional parts
35505-692-003 (this is the white OEM bulb) I decided to swap that out for a Blue LED bulb to match the Homelink, dash, and JDM LED ashtray since they're all blue.
If you tap in to this location below, the light(s) dim with the dimmer.
Now since we don't have a direct connection for the LED holder what I did was wedge two 18-22 gauge wires ~4-6 inches long (stripped ~1/4" off the ends) to either side (positive/negative) of the terminals inside the little LED holder. After inserting the LED bulb the wires are quite secure; combine that with installing it on to the panel and it's not going anywhere. I probably could've soldered it to the terminals but then you run the risk of melting the plastic holder & the LED bulb not fitting in the holder (it's already a tight fit).
The other end of the 6" wires I attached insulated quick disconnects to about 24" of wire which then got tapped in to the Homelink wires and then to the location above.
I didn't take pics cause I can't find my crappy point & shoot camera. I could take cell phone pics if really needed but it's an easy install.
