Thumbs up Installed my Clarion CX501

I need to give thanks to kman for his pictures and instructions as far as to take the stock radio/bezel off. Also blythe for posting the p/n for the OEM items needed for the install. I just wanted to use OEM so it could match the colors perfectly. That stupid screw on the bottom is hard to get.

TIP
There are three openings when you take the panel underneath the open/close vent lever, to access the screw that holds the radio, use the small opening to the right. It's a 7mm bolt or you can use a phillips screw driver.

The sound is so much better, and now I don't have to physically hook up my phone to my radio, I can stream via bluetooth and sounds clear. Picks up my calls and its clear on the other end. No need to install the mic somewhere since it's built in. The only drawback on this unit is it's no very bright. It's something I knew that I was getting into. It's gotten very positive reviews on Amazon. Also I think some mentioned on Amazon that it can control wimamp software on the phones, but don't quote me on it. The white color is best for daytime and matches the white of the HVAC controls. Another reason I got this is I plan to get a cheap tablet, attache it to the head restraint of the back seat (my baby's seat is rear facing right now) and I'll be able stream her shows to the radio so she can hear them. Her own little entertainment system. I'm still messing with the controls.

VX400 has a 6.5" screen while the VX401 has a 6.2". Have you checked out the reviews on crunchfield and amazon? The VX401 doesn't seem to be getting good reviews, granted it's only 3, but not the best way to start. On the other hand, the VX400 has gotten so-so reviews too.

Actually its in the front, next to the aux connection, it has a little door, that's why it's a bit hard to see.

If you go to Clarion's website they show the VX400 with a 6.5" screen and VX401 a 6.2". Guess crutchfield got it wrong.

ahhh yeah iam still going to get it i think.. i was scouting out a pioneer and a jvc, but it was only because they had a 7" screen, i think i will sacrifice the screen size to have the extra features the clarion has.

thankyou for telling me to research more into it and not just look at its specs and capabilities.. i can see why now... i think i might go back and get a pioneer but a different model pioneer completely then what i planned.. perhaps this one:

Pioneer AVH-P3300BT DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com

thanks for stopping me from making a horrible mistake.. the ones i was planing to buy had awful reviews on some of the features i was hoping to use.

Your welcome! I always read reviews, especially the lengthy ones since those go into detail rather then "OMG it's awesome!" 5 star ones. I also like to read the negatives explaining why they gave it that rating. The Pioneer looks like a sweet unit with many positive review. Another suggestion, don't buy it from Crutchfield, Amazon has for $360 and on ebay for a new one $285 (w/ free s&h) or even less if your ok with a return item or one that has a small scratch.

Mine was used one with a slight blemish on one size, honestly, I can't even see it and got it for like $50 less.

I guess I'm just worried about how to conect the speakers to the new HU. I guess I'll figure it out when I get there... Thanks for your time...
