Pull off the center radio piece of the dash (hands or tool). Remove screws behind hazard button. Reinstall new hazard button. Snap on center radio piece.

There's also a bolt in the underside of the radio accessed by removing the lower trim above the cupholders.

What I did was look up the directions from Scosche on replacing the head unit, it's the exact same process.

I know this is basic, but it only lights up when you turn on your headlights/parking lights. Once they're on, you can adjust the brightness as you would normally for the dash and the hazard light adjusts as well.

Do the hazards work anyway?

If it's not lit the unit is somehow defective, it could be a burnt bulb or something?

No worries, basic is always a good place to start.

I had assumed this to be the case and I tested that. I think I'm just going to have to test it at nighttime and see if there's a faint glow. The hazard switch itself works fine. I'm gonna just have to wait until like...9 PM and try it then I guess.

So I guess it is working, I think I was just expecting the light to be different. This photo does't really convey it, but it just seems duller, like the light coming through is just bleedover from the HVAC control illumination. Then again, I don't recall there being any way for light to get from the side/back of the switch out to the front, so it's probably working and I just was expecting it to be brighter.

ROFL, and I'm the one you sold it to! :P

I like it fine, I just wasn't sure if it was working right. The guys that replaced my radio didn't think it was even working when they installed it because you can't even see it in the daytime.

Haha, I never even realized they were different! But now that I see a pic, I can recall that Japanese/European cars have that red hazard switch.

I can't say I would like to look at it on a regular basis, though.

There is one screw you need to remove from underneath by removing the panel above the cup holder with the ambient light in it. Its a pain to see but when you locate it its easy. The the whole panel snaps off. Easy to do.

It's lit up like that all the time? I was going to get one, but not so sure about it if that's the case, that would annoy my peripheral vision at night to no end.

you have to remove the radio assembly then i believe theres just 1 or 2 screws holding it on.. theres a hidden bolt that holds the radio assembly in place that you can gain access to by removing the panel in front of the shifter.

Nvm I'm slow and didn't see another page fml

For the GE8 owners, I noticed the 03 Mitsu outlanders have a very similar shape.
Drove both at work one day.

Same maybe, if it is, the red JDM button without the light up. No more annoyance.

No, it comes on with the parking lights and is controlled by the dimmer.

They're only on if you have your headlights/parking lights on... and it dims with the dash.
