Official GE Aftermarket Steering Wheel Thread

I searched and didn't find a thread dedicated to aftermarket steering wheels in the GE, so I'm creating this one. I'm looking to buy a new wheel soon and wanna see pics of what people have in their GEs. Also opinions and advice would be great, like what hubs work w/ the GE and what quick releases people have.

Wheels I'm considering...

There has been threads about it in the past but they haven't really gone anywhere. Most people don't want to give up their warranty as well as void their insurance.

Dwsparts will be able to get the hubs and quick disconnects if you want for a great deal! He even used to have a fit!

I've got a Momo 300mm 'Team' wheel with a J's/WorksBell quick release. Absolutely brilliant being 60mm less in diameter. At least for me, I prefer a smaller diameter wheel.

The WorksBell shortboss model in use is part # 224S.

Just now ordered a 280mm version. It's going to be so tiny.

That's aweomse! So you have this short hub right ? - Evasive Motorsports | PH: 626.336.3400 Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm PST: Works Bell Rapfix Short Boss/Hub - Honda Fit GD3/GE8, Civic 06+ FA/FG/FD It's almost as much as the wheel! I can't find a price for the J's quick release, but J's stuff is always pricey...Do you know what other hubs/quick releases work w/ the GE? Or even what model civics are the same, because the closest I can find for other slightly cheaper ones only have civics listed as per the fitment. Might be asking too much, I know...your help and pics are appreciated tho! Love your car too btw.

A side question...on the GE (or any car I guess), when you install the hub and wheel, can you align it differently than the stock one? For example, if my stock steering wheel is still SLIGHTLY off center (like 1 or 2 mm max) even after a good alignment, would I be able to correct that when installing the aftermarket wheel/hub? The shop I got my alignment at said it's as good as they can get it, and the alignment numbers they did were bang on. I don't really want to get down there and adjust the tie rods by 1/16th of a turn or whatever it would be. THannnnnnks

I guess I answered my own question...that link from Evasive says that short hub also fits 06+ Civics so I guess I can go by that when searching

And if I want to save a little money for now, I could just get a wheel and short hub adapter and just get a quick release later, yeah?

For daily driving I suggest a Momo boss hub if you can find one that will fit. They collapse on impact and at least might save you a jaw. Are those Bell hubs collapsible? I honestly don't know so i'm asking. Unless you have a full harness you wear everywhere.

That's just the old guy in me talking lol.

Yes if your steering wheel is off center you could fix it when you install the hub. Just move it one spline (or however many you need) "off center" in the direction opposite the pull.

Cool, thanks.

I'm honestly still weighing the pros and cons of changing wheels. Only cons are losing cruise control, which I would get around by still mounting the controls for it on the wheel itself or on the console somewhere. I've seen plenty of pictures of other people's DIYs that look nice, and I'm confident it would not be hard. Another con is if it would void insurance in a crash where other airbags in the car deployed. Still need to talk to my insurance about it, but if the accident were another driver's fault, their insurance could surely deny paying my health bill if it were in their policy that removing airbags voids their responsibility.

And of course the other BIG con is in a really bad crash, my face smashing into the wheel. Obviously the seat belts are not to be relied upon to stop that from happening, and w/ no airbag to stop the rapid forward movement of your head, I honestly don't see what's to stop my neck from snapping in a high speed collision. Obviously the extreme worst case scenario there, but still, worth pondering.

BUUUUUUUUUUT I'm a really safe driver, never even had a slight tap on the road, so is it worth the relatively low risk of getting in a bad traffic accident to enjoy my car that much more???

Since my last Fit died and I definitely needed the airbag, I don't care to lose my current airbag. I'll just be wrapping my wheel in alcantara instead of a race wheel. I'll keep that for the project car.

Steering wheel from J's and the hasepro insert. I just purchased an air bag cover that I sent out to get wrapped in carbon to complete the wheel. Can't go wrong with it in my opinion since you can keep the airbag and the wheel is smaller then the OEM.

^ $720 though!!!! At least that's what I found on J's Japanese site. That's so much money for a wheel...would get it if I could tho.

Yeah I figured a new wheel average (personal, nardi) depending on style and brand is about $230.00-$350.00, then the adapter hub again depending on brand ($80-$130) & of course the quick release (not a fan of cheap parts so works bell for me) $300.00+.

So again it all comes down to what you like and what brands you feel comfortable with. The cost of J's wasn't to bad comparing the alternative and you can keep your stock airbag.

For the quality it's a good price yeah. And you still have your airbag, which isn't cheap technology.

Coming from someone whose almost died in a car, I don't think it's worth the risk, you're screwed as well with insurance if they discover the airbags have been modified/removed.

The steering wheel in the Fit is about the best I've ever had in a car, not had many cars but I really don't see much wrong with it, very nice feel.

I agree. I love the stock wheel. I find it is so comfortable at the 10 and 2 position.
