2009 Fit Sport Transmission Replacement

My car only goes in reverse. Broke down this morning. Person who towed my car says it’s the transmission.

My car has 186,000 miles on it. And it good shape except for some rust around back tire wells. I am not mechanical and cannot fix my own car.

My mechanic says he can put in a used transmission for 1000.00 but does not think it is worth it considering the high miles. I have not had my car towed to the shop- we had a phone conversation.
i am on a tight budget and am considering getting the repair and hoping to get another 20,000 miles or so out of this car. It would be cheaper than buying a new car considering the taxes and monthly payments. Am I way off on this?

Well considering we've got a guy here who's over 500k on his Fit I say pay for it and keep going. I don't know if you were regular with your maintenance or not but these cars have pretty tough drivetrains.

Plus 1 on the Maintenance

We have an 09 Jazz Sport with 305,000km, roughly the same as yours. It's has been serviced regularly and the transmission is still as smooth as a new car.

Try shopping around on price if your in an area with a lot of mechanics...

Good luck 👍

Is this an automatic transmission? Maybe clutch plates slipping? Not getting into gears? Not an expert on transmission but 186k doesn't seem that high for it to be simply normal wear and tear. At least I hope mine doesn't crap out that soon. I do drain and refill the ATF about every 25-30k and change the filter every 3 ATF change.

As long as it's not rusty!
