No Bikes on Honda Fit Roof Racks?

Hey,

Just found this online whilst looking for a set of roof racks to carry our bikes on...

https://www.glynhopkinpartsonline.co...-08l02-tf0-600

"Note: To avoid roof deformation, no bicycles can be carried on the roof."

Has anyone had issues?

Cheers,

The roof of the Fit is very flimsy. Every time I hand-wash mine, I'm surprised how easy it is to flex the roof when pushing on it.
I carry my road bike inside the Fit every day. Easy to load and unload. Standing up, it takes next to no room in the rear..and it stays clean.

Thanks for the reply, there are so many people carrying bikes etc on their Fits / Jazz's that I'm surprised no one has had the issue. We are heading if in a 2500km journey and were wanting to take our bikes, 2 on the back and 2 on the roof. Looks like the bikes will be staying at home now... 🤔☹️

I’d be tempted to go ahead and mount a roof rack — just doing so and loading the bikes carefully. Not saying you won’t see some minor damage but these cars are meant to be utilitarian plus they are pretty tall so in theory any damage could be hard to spot haha.

FWIW, I also currently store my road bike inside. My next and perhaps future setup would be a hitch rack.

I would look more into the drawbacks of the roof rack if you really need it before ruling it out altogether.

I have had two of my bikes on the roof rack at one point with no issues. One of these was a road bike; the other was a MTB. The middle of the roof definitely flexes and feels flimsy when pressing on it, as another poster has stated, but the roof rack feet sit on the frame. Crosswinds already affect the tall Fit, so adding a bicycle or two on top act like a huge sail.

If I were in your situation, my concern would be for the overall load of the car with four bicycles and, assuming one rider per bike, four passengers inside. You will likely have some sagging in the rear.

Thanks for the feedback.

That's really weird, I hear that a lot about it being tall and catching the wind, have not had that issue here in NZ.

I just installed a set of GK RS (2019) shocks and springs into the car, it's pretty firm in the back and will only be luggage and my daughters (7&9) back there so should be fine. We have decided to leave the bikes at home for this trip.

We have done a few long trips but this will be our longest in the Jazz, 30hrs of driving over 5 days.

Cheers

Ahh, right on. My kids are 12 and 10 and would rather scoot around on inline skates or scooters. Those, thankfully, pack up very small in the trunk of the Fit.

I doubt my kids would last three hours in the back of the Fit, let alone 30 hours / five days. They are too used to having more space (our other vehicle is a minivan).

Wishing you safe journey!

My roof has visible deformation on the outside from me punching it from the inside. The metal is very thin and soft 😬

There is a story behind this.

How is your hand faring?

Here's hoping you have a smooth, hassle-free commute today.

Wow, road rage is not common here in NZ

Thanks. I have since changed jobs. My current commute is a brisk 30 minutes over country roads living the VTEC life 😎
