Base tire width

So I have a 2010 base that's due for new tires. The standard size is 175 65 15. Would a 185 65 15 fit on the steel wheels? I figured a slightly wider tire may give a little more stability. Has anyone used this size and if so was there a difference or any problems?

Use a tire calculator to compare dimensions. As long as the overall diameter is close to the stock one, you'll be fine. You should stay <3% of the OEM tire.

I have seen in this forum quite many GE Fit owners happily using 185/65R15 tires. The difference in rolling circumference is only 2,5 % so it just makes the speedometer more accurate.

I'm running 195/65r15 Winter tires(summer freebies! on stock 15" rims) Ii the winter and they are great. Much more stable handling. My summer tires are a little wider and on stock sport rims: 205/50r16. Well I do increase stability greatly, they also make the fit a bit less flickable and less sketchy with all the extra grip. In some ways it's a little less fun. I miss how sketchy, and twitchy those stock 175/65r15 Dunlops felt. For me scary = fun.

I switched from stock 175/65R15 to 185/60R15s for just a 1% change, on 3 of my cars. That size seems to be more readily available.

Thanks, I think I'll end up going with the 185s. Figured it'll be a little less all over at highway speeds
