It's a pullin' machine now!

Installled this Draw-Tite today. Bought it from Amazon...$115
Took about an hour and a half. Could have done it in half that time if I would have read the direction better!

Neat! What are your plans for it - bike rack? Add some trailer wiring and tow stuff?

steve37 Oct 20, 2020 11:36 AM

It's a class I hitch...only rated at 2000 lbs for towing and 200 lbs for tongue weight.
I wanted it for a roll-on..tip-away bike rack and maybe a small utility trailer for fall leafs.

Man that is gorgeous. I don't even need one but would love to throw one on my Fit.

steve37 Oct 20, 2020 02:13 PM

I was a little worried about fitment...because I have a Tanabe Medallion exhaust.
The support bars fit around it with no problem.

The whole thing is attached by four bolts that use existing holes in the frame of the Fit.
A small notch needs to be cut into 2 of the 4 holes to pass-thru the backing plates. It's a very easy mod.

OP did you make a video of the install?

Just realized another benefit of the hitch....
Will be easier now to wash the upper a** end of it.

(all the brown spots on the Fit, in the pic, are not dirt or gouges....they are reflections of leafs in my asphalt driveway)

And you will soon realize, that car is also a very handy tool, when you can easily pull things with a car by just throwing a rope loop around the hitch. At least that's what I do. Within last half a year I have pulled heavy poles from one end of the yard to another, straightened a bend steel structure by yanking and released the stuck chain from a hoisting tackle.

Is the ground clearance on level with the muffler?

Without the step-up, as in the first pic, the height is 10 inches from the ground.
With the step-up, the.height is 12 inches...which is exactly where the center of the muffler sits at.

Added a Swagman two bike platform bike rack to it. Used it for the first time today....works perfect.

Thanks! Last week, after using the lift to install the draw-tite on the Fit, we had a layer of snow. They even salted a lot of the roads around here. So, I parked the Porsches for the season. Now, we have sunny and 65 each day this week! Oh well! If I get them back out...it'll surely bring the bad weather back.

steve37 Nov 5, 2020 06:14 PM

Used the bike rack the last two days because of the incredibly nice weather here.
Driving on the interstate at 75mph...the bike and rack only move about an inch or two when hitting bumps.

The nicest part of it is...when loading or unloading the bikes, just pull the top bar up and pick the bike off. That's it. No straps, tethers, or cables.

Was this a 2" or 1.25" receiver on the hitch?
I'm finding lots of similar "platform" racks, but most seem to want a 2" receiver.

Sweet ride too. Keep the rubber side down :)

1.25"....You can get an adapter coupler for a 2" rack.
Just remember about the 200 lb max tongue weight.

I'm totally pumped to install mine when it comes. Been taking a while. I already pit in the wiring for it.
Have you tried towing a small trailer yet?

Breezer Aug 21, 2021 07:02 PM

I need to order one for my Fit.

Does anyone make an easy plug and play wiring kit?

Since selling my Tacoma, I borrow my boyfriend's truck to tow my Jetski, need to install a hitch.

I have a 4X8 ft utility trailer with sides. Earlier this spring, I used it to haul black dirt for a few miles.
I'm sure I had over a ton on it, and it hauled it easily. My Fit is a 5 speed manual.
I was very careful doing it...never went over 40 mph.
