I have a few honda salvage yards near by. Name your price and I can call them and possibly get it shipped out to you.

The yard quoted me at $200 and they need a core exchange.

Do they know how many miles it has? And where are they located? I can definitely give mine back. Hopefully theyre local so I can make the exchange.

Sorry I should have mentioned that this yard was in San Jose, CA. I was going to make a trip down to SoCal this weekend but my plans fell though.

Can you ask how many miles it has? When do you think youll be in socal area again? May be easier to just swap in person than double shipping (them and I)

Living in the LA area, you have access to a lot of auto dismantlers and Pick U Parts yards. Why don't you just call a couple of local yards near you and do a search there? It would make it a lot simpler, and you can make your core return there instead of paying for shipping of a used converter to you and additional shipping for the core return.

My understanding is it's illegal for shops/yards to sell converters.

You will never know if it's legal for wrecking yards to sell used converters until you start calling yards and asking. The San Jose yard that another member here mentioned, offered to sell him one.

Owning an ultra low emission vehicle in Ca. pretty much requires you to buy from the dreaded dealership at a very high price, or by chance finding someone on say Craigslist parting out a car. In the Craigslist situation, and the wrecking yard situation, you have no guarantee what condition the converter is in. It may be in as bad of shape as yours. Owners from other states can buy aftermarket catalytic converters off the internet, but those sellers will not sell those converters to anyone in Ca. because of our overly stringent smog laws we have.
