Intro and “build”

Hello, just bought my second Fit. 2012 5spd black on black. No real plans, just drive and maintain. That said I may do basics. I’ll start lurking to get smart on maintenance stuff.

My car focus is Land Cruisers, I’ve got a 98’ 100 and 91’ 70.

Welcome to the forum. I am new here also. Clean looking Fit. How many miles on it? There is a lot of info here and I'm sure it will be helpful to you.

Looks nice. My favorite Fit model.

Looks like you live somewhere sunny and hot. Black might have been a mistake

So the to-do list has started. Not sure how this car’s life will morph over the years, but I have a very active family so I’m going to build it to fit our needs.

So, on order: all season floor mats, hidden 2” reciever, and appointment for tint.

Current considerations and research:

Set of Blizzak WS90s in 185/55r16, I may bump up to a 195/55 for a bit of extra clearanc. They’ll be mounted to the factory wheels.

I get some RPF1s and some performance all seasons. I may dig into some rubber that won’t get chewed up in gravel -or- I’ll build something in enhance the fun-to-drive style.

Lighting. I’m spoiled by good lighting on my Cruisers and my wife’s car. Morimoto LED projector hi/lo are on the table. I may replace replace the factory fogs with Baja Designs LP4s -or- Rigid Adapt 10” bar stealth mounted in the grill.

Sound deadening. Again, Cruisers and wife’s car. The Fit is fucking loud inside. I’m starting with the trunk but yeah I’ll document sound deadening.

long term, might start looking at junkyards for a K20 to stand-build. Do some flashy useless shit like a bride bucket and red H’s.

For winter tires, you should go with a narrower tire. I will "dig" into the snow more easily. So I suggest you go with a 185 tire.

Put my husky liners in. I switched them them in my Land Cruiser after dealing with poor fitment from weather tech. 9/10 would recommend.

decided to place over the factory carpet mats in an effort to control cabin sound.

Tint is on. Suntek ceramic 50% on the windshield, 20% on the all the other glass. I’ve got the same setup on my wife’s car. 10/10 would recommend.

So after lurking a bunch of threads on sound deadening I’ve decided to add to the brain trust. I will document objective and subjective info on what I do to cut cabin sounds.

Baseline is established on the same stretch of farm road. Meter is roughly shoulder-height in the center between the front seats. Sitting in car: 35 dba
Closing door: 77 dba
Sitting in car at idle: 41 dba
Sitting in car at idle ac blasting: 67 dba

Cruise ac blast at 45mph: 72 dba
Cruise ac off at 45mph: 70 dba
Cruise ac blast at 75 mph: 76 dba
Cruise ac off at 75mph: 76 dba

yeah, weather tech seems to have shit the bed in the last few years. Husky liners are top notch in my opinion.

I started in the engine bay, I just covered the bottom of the metal deck above the motor. No changes to db level but the pitch is noticeable better. If/when I do a k swap I’m going to use a damplifier blanket and accustic paint to insulate the firewall.

The trunk is done too. I just covered areas that had a tin sound when tapped. I used a thick yoga pad to fill the spare tire area.
