Battery discharged after less than a week

Hello,

I replaced my 2013 fit battery a few months ago. Today I faced an issue where the car needed to be jump started. It was last driven about 5 days ago. After jump starting and driving around the block it seemed charged up. I put it on the trickle charger over night.

Is this a known issue with the fit? I didn’t want to put in a battery mod to replace the tiny oem one. Didn’t really expect to have an electrical problem at 45k miles.

Your mileage is super low! Could it be that you have some corrosion built up on chassis grounds somewhere? Or maybe your car takes a lot of juice to start since much of the engine's lube has drained down into the pan before running again. It's worth mention that the better condition an engine is in, the easier it is to start! A valve adjustment (recommended at 30k miles) may help some.

A bum battery or electrical system parasitic drain are not faults inherent to the platform to my knowledge, but even if they were they could be resolved :}
All one would need do is make sure that the battery isn't losing power to anything silly while ignition is off. Security still needs juice, and the car's brain too, but I think that's it.

It's been mentioned here by folks who live in places that get super cold that the stock size battery can't handle start-ups during winter. If you call one of those super cold places home, a bigger battery may be a good idea!

Here in the South we're just brushing 30°F. I hate it, the cars hate it.

Here it gets to -20 in the winter sometimes. The OEM battery, for me lasted about 1.5 years, then some cells shorted out inside and it was shot. Got it replaced under warranty, then started to look at bigger options. Finally got a 51R, same as what I had in my 1991 and 2000 Civics. Since then, it was OK before Covid when I drove my car often. Since Covid, when I don't use the car for 3 days+ in the winter, I plug it to an intelligent charger, so car is always ready to go when I need it.

Search on here if you want to upgrade your battery, there are many, many threads about it.

Wasn't an issue for my 2010 Fit that I've left sitting for more than a week when I've been away. The battery lasted more than five years (and I replaced it before it went bad). Something is draining your battery. Could be a light was left on- either in the passenger compartment or in the hatch. Yeah, even a little light can drain the small battery. Or an after-market stereo or alarm system.

Cold weather is a major issue with all batteries. That is why they sell battery warmer blankets in colder climates. I would suggest installing one of those to help you car start a bit easier through the cold seasons.

I bought a new oem battery from Honda 4 years ago and it hasn’t skipped a beat yet. I live in Ontario Canada where it also gets cold, I always buy my batteries from Honda, I believe they are around $100.00 after core.

It’s also fair to mention.. if you have any aftermarket electronics in, it’s possible that they were installed poorly, or have come loose or the wiring damaged, that could be the source of a slow electrical drain.

Change your air intake and get the full-size battery. It will fit right in.
I did it a couple years ago...troubles were gone.

How would an Intake help with battery discharge? Or do you mean to fit the full size battery.

Yes...to fit the larger battery in.
The original airbox takes up a lot of space.

But still, you can fit the 51R battery with the stock intake.

^^^ I couldn't make it fit in mine...without cutting some supports.
I didn't care to do that.
With the short intake...the 51R sits right in.
