So my engine is done for
So my engine is done for
So this may be a stupid question but My engine started knocking and looking at new l15a engines cost 7k plus right now and a k20a with transmission can cost from 3k-5k what would be cheaper and more reliable I also sadly cannot do it myself as I am stuck 6hours from home. I also live in Utah were the engine is pushed alot. alot of mountains and high Altitude running a more powerful engine would be helpful and the k series is know for reliability but so is the l series. What's your thoughts thanks
You should be able to find a used L15 engine for a lot less than $7,000. Even with the mountains and high altitude, these engines are typically very reliable. OEM/stock will almost always be the most reliable option, so that's what I would recommend if you're looking to retain a reliable and worry-free experience with your car.
Also, see if you can diagnose, or have someone diagnose, why your engine has started knocking. I can guarantee there's a reason and it didn't just start happening out of the blue.

Those are crazy dealer prices, use Google and find a good independent Honda shop before you think about changing out an engine. Even swapping out an engine with a good used one three grand range. But have a good Competent mechanic look at your engine first, unless you overheat them these Honda engines run and run and run and run and run.
A drunk search on LKQ online and I could easily find a L15A1 and L15A7 for under a grand without shipping. Just have to be mindful of what transmission option you have as the engine's oil pan correlates with correlating transmission from the factory... In other words, automatics have their own engine oil pans as do manuals. =)
Labor and any additional add ons or preventatives like engine warranty, spark plug, valve adjustment, timing chain w/ guides, water pump, etc. further drive the price up more.
