Pictures of Inside Sport Tailgate, Where Spoiler Mounts

Hey gang. Can anyone post pictures of the inside of their Sport tailgate where the hardware for the spoiler comes through? I’m trying to source the most accurate hardware to put a Sport spoiler on a Base. Thank you!

So it's almost impossible to take a picture of the internal hardware because of how far inboard it is of the rubber grommet. I'll attach the best picture I have. Think of it as a 3/4 inch long threaded insert that is welded/adhered to the interior of the panel. The end closest to the sheet metal is knurled. Look at the bottom right of the hole where the grommet used to live.

Thanks so much Red 05! I appreciate it a lot. So If I understand it correctly the spoiler hardware is mounted to the external skin, seemingly before they attach it to the inner skin of the tailgate? I'm wondering how the white plastic clips are involved in holding the spoiler onto the vehicle. Do you have any insight into that?

I pulled the original spoiler off mine and replaced it with a JDP ducktail. Far as I could see there were plastic 'receivers' that sat within precut voids in the exterior of the hatch. I can take a picture of the underside of my original wing that still has the male end of the plastic fasteners, but I can't take a pic of the hatch under the spoiler.

Thanks so much. That makes so much more sense. Since I ordered a dark blue spoiler I’ll have to drill the holes for the receivers on my car. Idk if I’ll do the bolt holes since I might also double-sided tape it.

Thank so much Red! I’ll probably drill the holes for the male clips but not the bolts. I can’t put the internal hardware inside the hatch so I’ll have to double-sided tape it. Thanks so much.

I've been working on this exact problem for a bit now and I've decided to go with rivnuts. Prob 8mm. If that interests you.

Thanks Gre8 Fit that does interest me. Do you know if the sport tailgate has a bump to line up with the spoiler or does the spoiler mount flush with the tailgate? My spoiler just came in today and I held it up to the tailgate and it didn't look as flush as I remember.

It's flush, minus the obvious holes drilled from factory to mount the wing. The wing from factory is angled down slightly.

I'm not sure. I went with a different OEM spoiler, but is seems to sit pretty flush with the hatch. But the Sport and Base hatches should be the same plus/ minus some spoiler holes and a key cylinder hole.

so I found the factory service letter for installing the spoiler as an option. Jack screws are used instead of welded in nuts. It’s a pretty simple solution. I’ll be attempting it once the rest of my parts come in.

Even better. I recently bought a bunch to replace all the plastic body panel rivets. https://www.mcmaster.com/jack-nuts/

I think we're on to something here lol

Keep us updated with the installation. I probably won't be getting to it until after the holidays.

Easy-peezy. I’ll post the instruction once I get on a laptop. The headrest part was sourcing a drill with a big enough chuck to hold >10mm drill bit. Everything else was a piece of cake. It probably took me 30 minutes.

Just picked up a spoiler not too long ago and I'm looking to do the same with my base, looking forward to it!
