I’ll be updating this as I get more information but I figured posting here could be helpful.

First I’m going to give some ingot about my car. Like I put in the title it’s a 2011 Fit sport with 145,000 miles.

Incident: I was driving on a highway when I heard a pop/bang sort of sound. After a minute or so the check engine light was on and there was a smell. I was near an exit that was the one I was taking and as I started on the off ramp there was a noise and I could no longer accelerate so I pulled over. I was very close to my mechanic so I had it towed there.

My mechanic looked at it and called me to say it was a blown spark plug and they can’t do what needs to be done to see what needs to be done. He also said I need to take it to my dealership.

I didn’t have any signs that something was wrong with it or the spark plugs weren’t tight enough or too tight. I’ve had it since spring of 2017.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions please let me know!

 

There was a TSB out for undertorqued spark plugs from the factory. I don't remember off the top of my head what they're supposed to be, like 20 ft pounds? I'm not sure.

 

This happened to my 2012 sport. Originally I was going to just replace the cylinder head, but took a trip to my local junkyard and found a GE8 that was totalled but had an engine with only 98k. Got the engine for $200 and swapped mine out. If you have some experience or know somebody that could help, it might be worth it to check out your local junkyard.
