pulse wipers
Which is 90% marketing BS. The MICU/BCM already controls intermittent wiper operation, so the only physical difference between adjustable and non-adjustable wipers is 1 thin signal wire between the MICU and steering column (maybe 3 feet long) a $5 potentiometer in the control stalk, and the knob-ring that the driver actually touches. Some of that meager material savings is offset by the cost of designing, producing, and maintaining multiple parts lines and inventories (one wiper stalk with the ring, one without; one steering column wiring harness with the wire, one without).
They leave out basic features to make the lower-priced trims intentionally unappealing. If the only added equipment for the +$3000 next trim level was a power sun roof and heated seats, you're damn right I'm going with the lower model. By tying everyday-use features (like adjustable wipers, automatic headlights, shift paddles, mirrors with marker lights) to those "higher trim" models, they force you to pay for "luxury" features you don't necessarily want (like a sunroof that reduces headroom, and hot and sticky/icy-cold high-maintenance leather upholstery).
Unfortunately, the only way around these coercive sales tactics is to tell the salesman "I really like features X, Y, Z of that high end model, but the sunroof and leather are a deal breaker. Let corporate know and I'll swing by next year." Then either follow up next year, or go buy a car from a company that isn't circling the drain, like Toyota. They're not perfect, but they're better than what Honda has been doing. No, I didn't enjoy saying that.
