tinted and bra'd

local shop did the job...

70% tint $190- all 9 windows (no front winshield)

clear bra $480- whole front bumper, partial hood

also did the door handles, A-pillar and 6'' of the roof for a little more.

total was $780.

no more fear of rock chips/bugs

the bra has 5 year warranty, tint either 5 yr or unlimited.

picture tomorrow.

I disagree. I'm looking for a mild green tint myself. I wish the OE tint was darker in the first place. There's a lot of window area that the sun can poke through.

Sorry I agree on the tint thing as well. But I think anything under 50% tint is worth it anything over definitely not.

i just dont want to risk having a 5-0 citing me for front tint.

i mostly do it for security reasons. so my stereo or something doesnt get stolen. if they dont know whats in it then it will take them longer to get it.

I think it looks great given the car's color. I have a question for you, as I've been considering a clear bra for my '09 (which has yet to arrive). Are there multiple brands out there that you investigated, and how did you decide where to have it done. Also, I checked out a product by 3M, but the local installers don't yet have templates for an '09 Fit. Congrats on the new ride!

they did the old school method, by cutting out their own template as the 3m material was applied to the car.

afaik, there are no templates out yet.

If I tint my windows dark within the limit of my state law (GA), but then I drive to another state, say NY, which allows only 70% on the side windows. Will I get a citation in NY if I have a GA license plate?

One last silly question: How visibile is the material, and have you attempted to wax the car yet? Thanks!

The tint guy I used does not use templates or computers - he told me that the computer cuts the windows the same every time, and the windows can have a little variation in them (even though they are off an assembly line). Same with the clear-coat - they apply it by hand and each car is diff.

So I've learned from this thread that the lower the percentage, the darker the tint...great! What I don't know is, what colors can the windows be tinted besides black? CrystalFiveMT indicated a preference for a mild green, which I think would look awesome. What about a bronze tint? Something not too dark yet deep enough to know it's there? Is bronze even an option? And, is windshield tinting strictly forbidden by law? I've never considered tinting so please overlook my ignorance.

As for uniformity, mole177, I think your decision was a good one. I like the way it looks and ties in well with the silver. Congratulations on your new car by the way. I'm looking forward to the day when I'm handed the keys to my own.

Props on the new tint. If you like it, thats all that really matters!

I am looking at tint too. When I was younger, I might have stated anything above 20% was rubbish. Nowdays, Im older, have more... er... violations, and dont really need a reason for cops to give me more trouble than I can find myself. Having said this, in GA, I believe 32% is the max legal, so I will probably be going with 3M's 38%, just to stay legal.

Yes, there are all kinds of color combinations. You can get rainbow tint if you REALLY want it. Ive seen silver, red, amber, blue, green, (all metallic), green non metallic, purple (its what happens when you buy cheap tint and use ammonia cleaners on it), gray, blue. Pink. Seen a pink. I think you can probably get just about whatever color you can think of... if you look far enough. Just dont get rainbow... unless you like it. Then by all means, go for it. In Georgia, it is illegal to tint the windscreen more than 5 or 6 inches from the top.
