Anyone Still Using Wax?

I found out almost 10 years ago about how superior polymers are in terms of daily protection. The average wax lasts 3-4 weeks at best. Polymers adhere to the paint and last 6-8 months on average. I used to buy Zaino which is one of the best polymers on the market but for an economy car I saw no need for it.
I applied 2 coats of Nu Finish and it's pretty damn good stuff for 7 bucks a bottle! Most people don't know how to apply a polymer and waste huge amounts. One bottle of Nu Finish will do your fit at least 40-50 times! A small bottle of Zaino does over 20 Corvettes and they are huge cars. The key is applying just enough polymer to see it on the paint, not a white glob like a wax.
Another Great asset is that Polymers can be applied in direct hot Florida sun. Try that with any wax.
For luxury $200,000-1 million dollar garage queens, wax is still the best since it gives a slightly better feeling of depth. Zymol makes waxes that cost roughly 800 bucks a can and more! BTW: The Zymol you see at Wal Mart is not Zymol. It's made by Turtle wax and is real trash. They paid Zymol to use the name.

I've started using Meguiars NXT - - Very happy with the ease of application, visual results, and how long it keeps beading.

Have you tried it?

I Have Seen It, Slick Looking Advertising and Pricier

But I bet it does a much better job than any waxes. I gotta tell you, I almost always buy Nothing but the best and most expensive. Since this is the "cheapest" car I ever bought I just bought Nu Finish but the damn stuff works really great. I also use it on my jet skis and it even hold up in the salt water of the Gulf. Polymers are the way to go.

I used it yesterday on my Fit. It is very easy to apply. I will see how long it lasts.

I've used the Ice 'wax' on the Jeep; really handy that you can go right over black trim w/o wax residue. Actually, it dresses up black plastic trim.
Easy to apply, tho' it doesn't hold up quite as well as some other products IMHO.

800 ha. Try 8500. Amazon.com: Zymol Royale Glaze: Automotive
Free refills for life though.

I use wax because I like the shine, and I enjoy spending time with my vehicles. Therefore I don't mind reapplying every so often.

Are you talking about the NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0? I have been thinking I would give this a try...

Never tried NXT. There's so many Meguiar's waxes I wish I had the time/money to try them all.

Right now I'm using Meguiar's Cleaner Wax and I love it! The bottle is running low, so over the weekend I picked up a bottle of Meguiar's Professional Hi-Tech Yellow Wax. I'll try to put it on tomorrow and let you guys know how I like it.

"This pure wax blends the highest quality Brazilian Number One Carnauba Wax with costly Polymers, Silicones, and special Resins to create eye dazzling gloss and depth of color while providing durable paint protection"

Check this out from the Meguiar's site.

What are the differences between Meguiar's waxes?

Meguiar's NXT 2.0 is great! I bought the paste, guess im just old school and would like to take a little more time than just using liquid. I used in on the GF's Eclipse and it is awesome! I did it a little over 2 months ago and the water is still beading off of it. I just picked up my 09 Orange Revo Sport A/T today and will be waxing on Wednesday with 2.0. I will posts picks sometime Wednesday night of the wax job and hopefully get some good shots of the water beading.

looks like we've got a WAX OFF going. I'll try to use some blue tape to show the difference between waxed and non-waxed.

Yep, that's the stuff

I've only used the liquid, very easy to use and the results are spectacular - - a little bit goes along way, no need to plaster
it on thick, light application and remove with a micro fiber cloth.

I'm sure the paste is good too.

has any one tried the wolfgang products from autogeek.net?
that is what i have been using on my pilot and our civic, and it is great. cleaner, swirl remover, then polymer sealant. lasts about 6 months, deep shine. easy application.
meguires makes great products, but this wolfgang stuff has such an amazing shine.

How long does the shine last? There were some comments over at Amazon about the shine not lasting very long. I'm in Wisconsin and it will be difficult for me to wax for about a 5 month stretch.

Consumer Reports ratings from summer '06 had the top 2 recommended products being Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid Wax and Turtle Wax Carnauba Car Wax T6. Eagle One Nanowax finished 3rd but scored low on durability. NuFinish finished 7th (had topped their rankings maybe 20 years ago). Meguiars NXT finished 9th with a low durability score similar to Nanowax.

I've tried many of the esoteric "wax" products over the past 15 years (Zainos, One Grand, P21, Zymol, multiple Meguiar's and 3M products, Black Magic, Nu Finish, Prestone, Armor All...) and I've never found a wax product that was head and shoulders above the rest. I've waxed each half of the hood with 2 different products and rarely was there a visible difference between 2 products. While some lasted longer than others, none reliably lasted the 6 months to a year that I would like. As such, I've reverted to regular over-the-counter products and trying to wax 3-4 times per year.

I'm currently using the Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid Wax and it works fine. The Porter Cable makes it pretty quick work. My only complaint is sometimes is leaves some streaks that are visible for a couple hours afterwards.
