engine low rattle around 20-40 mpg

sorry mph not mpg.

when i'm driving slowly i push lightly on the gas and the engine accelerates (but doesn't open fully) but there is a low gurggling sound (rattling sound) it's seems like something is loose. not sure what it could be.

I think I might have the same ting. Mine is a 2009 Manual Tranny. But at lower speeds I hear the rattle. I'm not convinced it is engine ping. If I let off the accelerator, I still hear it for a while as it decellerates. If I give it more gas - it actually gets softer as the revs come up. I don;t think this is typical of engine ping.

Let me know if you take it back to the dealer. I am thinking to bring it back - hate to do that. THem I'm without a car for the day and I hate hearing "we couldn;t get it to make any noise."

Can I bring my car in to any Honda dealers? because I live quite a way from the dealer I purchased it from.. Thanks... Keep this thread updated..

My guess would be heat shields rattling somewhere. Not very common on brand new cars but pretty common as they get older.

I just started to notice a rattling sound coming from the passenger side dash area. Notice it more at higher speeds on the highway. Haven't had a chance to take it to the dealer but will update when I take it in.

I have not noticed the rattle you are describing but have a "chatter" comming from upper engine intake runners.

Does anyone else have that noise?

I talked to a friend of mine and said it might be the air pump and that his GTI makes a similar sound.

thanks

i saw a post earlier this mo. about some recall on the '09 regarding some loose plastic pieces in the dash or something.... I do get a random rattle on mine, only its under the car. it sounds like a loose cable or something... im too lazy to crawl under the car to look. also a 5spd.

Check the windshield trim outside (bottom corners). I noticed the same thing and the trim taps on the glass at higher speeds (above 50 mph).

A small dab of clear caulk under the corner of the trim solves it.

Okay, so I'm not the only one! I've had my Fit for just over a month and noticed it end of last week as I was driving on the interstate (60mph) and only noticed it at night too (maybe it's during the day too but I'm too busy trying to get to work or whatever, lol). Like you, it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. I couldn't tell if it was inside the car or the windshield wipers or what.

Anyone know what it is?

Fit have a knock sensor? I'm guessing it does, which would squash knock or ping pretty quickly by retarding the timing.
We're not talking about the guttural growl when you prod it a little?

I had what I thought was a rattle in the cabin coming from the passenger side, turned out to be the passengers unused seatbelt connection (the part you click into the female receptor - there was no passenger) tapping against the inside of the B pillar.
