its a variable cam that opens only 12 valves until 3400rpm and then opens all 16 valves for more power in higher rpms and great fuel efficiency at lower rpms.

yea sumtimes im just too damn lazy to shift or i want my arm out da window i only drive in sport when i want to stay in the high RPMs, auto blows cuz of the "play it safe" stuff and its too "jumpy", like it would go from 3000 to 3500 in a jump, were as sport, it would climb up there (3100 to 3200 to 3300 so on)

Well put! You boiled the crap away! By the way Rubba Burna I don't think mentioned whether or not his Fit is an 08 or an 09. If it's I-vtec we're talking about then the explanation might change a bit. Prepare to read!

The Truly Amazing Honda Fit/Jazz

I hope that link works. If not I tried!

mind is an 08 vbp mt sport. the i-vtec just throws in some electronic controls on the vtec to run at optimum power and fuel efficiency.
rep points for a cut and dry explination?

the Vtec in our cars is garbage and dosent really have a real RPM that it kicks in at like the older civics and stuff that it would only kick in at 3500 or so iv read in some other posts that somone had a vtec light in a fit and the light was on most of the time wail driving above and under 3500 so im not sure what the deal is with that.

The article is cool but might, in fact, require a Redbull to complete. I'm being sincere when I'm saying tomorrow might be a better time to read that.

I own an 08 so I might be ignorant about the 09s. Does the 09 use I-vtec? I thought it was going to but I might be way off! It is getting late and my memory's going offline!

yeah i read this article awhile ago. the rest of the world uses idsi and the north american 06-08 fits use vtec and im pretty sure the i-vtec is used in the 09. the 09 really just add some electronic crap to control the vtec better. it also constantly runs 16 valves while the normal vtec runs 12 and then jumps up to 16 valves for more power.
read this article to really learn about the 2009 fit l15a
