USB Flash Drive - Bumps Cause Unsupported?

I'm wondering if anyone else is losing their USB flash drive - I keep losing mine over bumps or such and it goes to Unsupported and requires turning the unit off and back on again. It continues where it left off, but its rather irritating.

I will be buying one tomorrow. I will test and see if this happens to me. The ipod so far works great of course that is another length of wire without the weight to fall of because of a bump. do you keep the usb dongle in its holder or do you let it lay inside the compartment? Anyway I will be trying this tomorrow and see how it works for me.

I got a Corsair USB drive that's shockproof. It has a rubber covering on it and I've never had any problems while driving with it.

So its the USB drive and not the connection that causes the dropoff? I'm going to try out another USB stick... the current one that's been giving me trouble was only meant to be a short term stopgap.

I had this problem when I connected my MP3 player, but I suspected it was the adapter cable. I have not experienced the same problem with my flash drive.

Since you said "flash" then you're not talking about a USB hard drive, which means no moving parts. Therefore it would have to be a physical connection problem -- either the factory cable junction to the USB drive, or within the USB drive itself.

Yup - its just a plain old USB stick. I had one stick in the past that totally almost failed on me that would only work when jiggled in a computer's USB port - this stick has always worked fine on a computer. I have an 8GB PNY one that I actually bought for the Fit - got that in last night but I didn't drive the car today so I don't really know if it will make a difference. I initially had the other stick lying on the compartment, then when I kept getting unsupported I ended up hanging it up in the air using that wire holder thing in the middle of the compartment... I think that might have helped a little but still didn't get rid of the problem.

But for those that aren't seeing this with USB sticks - its 100% rock solid and no unsupported issues? Hopefully this PNY stick gives me that. I looked for one that didn't have those retractable heads on them since this was going to be there full time.

I have the PNY stick and haven't had any issues since I've had the car.

I have a 8 GB a-data pd9 and it works great. Have had no trouble.
And I've certainly gone over a few bumps

Happy to report back that the 8GB PNY Attache has given me zero unsupported errors this morning when I had about a half dozen with that other USB stick (which is brandless, it was one of those customized to some company freebie ones).

Its probably a worthless POS then. I also picked up an 8gb pny yesterday at staples for $39.99. I had no problems with it and it was also fairly cold in my car this morning.
