09 Fit or Mazda 3

I have an 09 Fit Manual shift in White on order and will not arrive until the middle of December.. I test drove a Mazda 3 Grand Touring Manual shift yesterday and the car is pretty sweet.. I really like both cars I’m sure the consensus would be to wait for the fit but just looking for some opinions Price on the Mazda 3 is about 2k more than the Fit.

mazda 3 and the fit is not in the same league. what do you need the car for? to commute or to haul stuff/passengers around?

If you can wait, there will be an all new Mazda 3 out in a few months.

Or just get the Fit today.

Mazda 3 is nice. If money is no object, get the Mazda.

If you are frugal, yet want to have a cool ride, get the Fit. (as long as its a fit sport)

Primary use is back and forth to work 100 miles round trip but I take the train twice a week and normal weekend driving. There are benefits for each car, the Fit mpg is great!! Plenty of room which I like! Could throw my Mountain Bike in the back of the Fit with no problem, would need a bike rack for the M3. Mazda the ride is sporty and comfortable car has a good amount of horse power and do not feel is dated in style. I would be happy with either car. The Honda salesman and manager were much nicer, Mazda dealer thought I was nuts to consider the Fit over the M3 but whatever they just want to sell a car which is understandable. Appreciate the replies

i would get the fit for the commute. i would pick an m3 over a fit though because that is one fast bmw. im not a fan of the mazdas that dont run a wankal motor.

No hatch on the Mazda in Canada (thanks Eldaino for the USA selection info.), needs a hatch. Terrible for loading things from shops without the hatch. Mazda somewhat dated, end of the style line, next version might be nicer. If you are comparing a Fit Sport, I cannot see the reason for a plain Fit, they look to be missing balance in design and need a couple grand in body parts.

Also, for what it is worth, there are simply too many Mazda 3 cars in my condo parking area. In my row alone, I park between two and there are another three further down the line, out of thirty cars. All of them are silver or grey. And they say there are too many Fits now. LOL.

Now the MazdaSpeed 3, love it. Would take it in a heartbeat, looking at getting one for our second vehicle in 2009.

IMO i would stick with the Fit.
i just don't think Mazdas are what they used to be
ever since ford took over. just got cheaper and crappy.
the only mazda i would still buy to this day is the MX3
miata. thats it. just my 0.02

in the states, you can get a mazda 3 hatchback, and its a great looking car.

even though its more 'upscale' the interior of the fit and the mazda are on about the same level. so thats one for the fit.

but despite how outdated the mazda 3 is, it still puts up amazing numbers for the class it competes in.

but i'd stick with the fit. mazdas have decent reliability, but servicing them is very costly. and they are not 'hardy' cars, they are kinda delicate and needy for a japanse make.

re-sell value on the mazda is very different to that of a Honda.......think of that also.

09 Fit White 5- Speed Sport will be a nice Christmas present decided I should wait. I spent the day looking at other cars could not test drive anything just wanted to look without the sales people on my back.. Nissan Versa, Scion XD, and Toyota Matrix XRS nothing really grabbed my interest? Thanks everyone for your input. Makes sense to go with the Fit..mpg, roomy, style; re-sale and reliability are hard to beat for the price.

Well I just switched over from a 2005 Mazda 3 Sport to a 2009 Fit...
and I can tell you they are in two different leagues... 2.3L DOHC engine Vs. 1.5L SOHC engine...

Handling wise... the Mazda is a lot better at cornering and such... acceleration is obviously more powerful... overall a great car to drive...

Down side... maintenance eventually does get rather pricey... fuel effiency is not as good... cargo space... the Fit is more pratical... but the interior of the Mazda looks better...

I liked my Mazda... but I love my Fit... overall... with the new ACE structure... fuel effiency... pricing... etc.

If you planning to keep this car for a long time... I'd stick with the Fit... depending on what problems you might have with the Mazda... after a few years it won't be the same...

GOOD LUCK!

Mazda is better at cornering? Are you sure? :P The fit has a record for being one of the best handling cars around, even noted having better cornering than a Corvette! ....unless my info has been wrong and someone can correct me?

For your situation I would say get the fit.

In any other situation I would say get the Mazda 3 or just upgrade and get the Mazda Speed 3.
