I will go by the monitor system and the owners manual. After the first free one at the dealer, its DIY for me, not just because Im cheap, but I like to take a few minutes to inspect everything while Im at it. The guy paid low wages to do it doesnt have time.
Oil discussions on the web are almost as bad as religion and pitches by Amsoil dealers are all over. You have to understand a little organic chemistry and modern refining technology to realize that todays conventional oil is really almost synthetic anyway at 1/3 to 1/2 the price. This is not the early 1970's when Amsoil and Mobil One came on the market. The Camry that I am replacing with the Fit has 211,000 miles and still drives like new, just passed its smog check and only leaks, not burns, about a quart in 2-3000 miles. Secret? just follow the book, no more, and regular name-brand "dino" oil, usually Chevron Supreme and Purolator filters, inexpensive and available. Dealer service departments and oil change places must hate these monitor systems. GM, BMW and Mercedes also have them. One year or when the car tells you does not get you in there often enough to make extra money. |
Thanks for the great reply Rogers Fit.
Excellent stuff IMO since we only have about 1-2 years left until the pole shift, I will just use reg synthetic. After the pole shift(passing of planet x), all roads will be unusable. Gas will be hard to find. |
Going to do my oil change today. This is the second one and I am at 7900 miles. Filling it up with Mobil 1 5W20 Synthetic.
|
Just did my first change on my '09 today. The MM was at 15% and kept coming on when I started the car. The mileage is at 6,500. I wanted to go to zero, but the MM was pain and 15% is close enough for me. Went with Mobile 1 full synthetic 5w20. I'm quite sure my Fit will be very happy. I could have gone to the dealer but I hate to say- I don't trust them. My regular guy has kept my cars happy throughout their lives, and he's right around the corner. It's probably all in my head but I swear it's running way smoother already.

Roger's fit, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
I am a newbie to both fit and dmax world, while I like amsoil, I like easy access to my oils, for most of my vehicles I settle on any major brand syn or dino. At wallysmart, QT syn is $18 for 5qts while dino is $13 for the same. for an average lazy joe like moi, I go for yearly oil changes on most of my garage queens, and I use. filter: I found Vesco oil, which is the local mobil suppiler, I bought cases of Mobil oil filter from them for less than half of store price |
I did my 1st oil change 2 weeks ago, @ 4800 miles and 20% minder, after 11 months. My minder always went down by 10, never by 5, so I wonder if some people have a different incremental change then others?
I put in Mobile syn extended, and a mobile 1 filter. The car runs much smoother and quieter. Also starts up much faster. I notices as the old oil went lower and lower, the car would be harder and harder to start. I highly recommend mobile full syn |

Then hours, then minutes, then seconds. 1 year is about 32863500 seconds (based on 365.15 days). Which would you rather count down? "14 months to go" or "38340750 seconds to go"? On topic... I've only had my car a month... and it wasn't encouraging initially. I've seen posts of people not changing their oil for up to 9k miles, so I was a bit disappointed when the minder dropped to 90% at only 450 miles, then 80% at about 900 miles. But, it's over 1500 miles and still at 80%... maybe it gets a little better/longer as my driving and the car adjusts to one another. |
I let my MM run to -172 and did my first oil change at 10,062 miles. Living on the edge I tell ya!!! :rotfl:
|
I'm at 5600miles@50% after about 3 months. I figure I've put around 124 hours on the engine. Does that make sense?
|
I think the maintenance minder goes down by 10% and then changes to 5% decrements because a 5% decrement isn't important early on, but is later on. Dan |
Low maintanence vehicle... (So far?)
:wavey: 2010 Silver Fit Basic here...
No racing to stoplights, driven in a fun style, but w/o peel-outs or aggressive driving... -FIRST (free) oil change with Indicator at 20%, mileage at 7,600, car on road for 8 months. -Dealer said I could've waited to 8,000 miles, but am going on a trip soon and wanted to get it out of the way...:vtec: Oh, but it did cost me $32 (including tax) to get the tires rotated at the same time..... :D |
17,000KM and first oil change at 5% maintenance minder
|
15,000 miles on the car so far. Did or first change at 9300 when the MM was at 30%. (Probably closer to 25% as it had been on 30 for a while) Would have waited until 15% and probably 10,500 miles but we had a 900 mile trip to do and I didn't want to chance running it down to 15% while on Vaca. Next one will be 15% (unless the same happens).
Swapped out the Honda Oil with Mobil 1 at the dealer for $38 including Tax. ~SB |

Yes, it does. Ford recommends 200 hour intervals for gasoline vehicles used in commercial service that idle most of the time, instead of using months or mileage. So, ~250 hours is a perfectly reasonable interval. |
Hmmmm, any one ever put an hour meter on their engine???

What if you only put 5000 miles per year on the car. Do you recommend that I should still wait for the maintenance minder? It could be a year before the oil hits 15%.
Thanks Nevertheless, I change my own according to the MM. The first one was at 12XXX miles and the second was at 23XXX. I sleep like a baby at night too. |

I believe the US Owners manuals say to change it one a year or when the minder gets to 15%.

I did my first oil change at the 1,000 mile mark. After that, I've been changing the oil/oil filter every 3,000 miles.
Motor oil: Motul 8100 Eco-nergy synthetic oil 5w-30 Oil filter: Hamp Synergy |
