Shift knob would have nothing to do with it. The 3rd gear problem is due to a bad fork and syncro design. There is a recall on it so if it act's up then get it fixed. I have had a FG2 and 2 FA5's(still own one of them), they are great cars.

It does it when it's cold mostly, it just happens sometimes, like its not repeatable, it just happens at random. Basically 3rd gear will sometimes be hard to push in. And if you don't take notice and jam it in, you'll let the clutch out when the gear is 1/2 engaged and it'll grind and look like a newb, lol. Honestly you get used to it after a while and you'll feel it when it gets hard and ram it in.

I have the 3rd gear problem on my 2006 V6 Accord MT. There was a Honda service bulletin concerning the matter over half a year ago. My dealer supposedly ordered the parts and was supposed to get back to me when they came in. I haven't heard back in over 6 months. I'm trading it back to them so I figured... they can deal with it.

I'm about to trade it in for a Fit!
