Those headers look machine-welded, for the most part. Plus, material matters. J's is probably titanium. Are those headers titanium as well? Stainless steel isn't going to discolor during welding like titanium does.

stainless discolors more than titanium does when welding. that header is machine welded aside from the blow off valve flanges. the heat lines look too perfect to be done by hand. that header looks like titanium.

didn't realize our exhausts run down one side like that. I really need to get my car on the lift and look around.

That is a full race robotic tig-welded manifold. And those are v-band flanges for dual wastegates, not bov flanges.

Probably stainless primaries and a mild steel flange like their other stuff.

titanium will not weld to stainless or carbon steel. if you try weld them it will crack and contaminate the titanium. the manifold has to be all titanium or it can be stainless with steel flanges. by looking at the flanges i think the mnifold is stainless.

those welds are clean enough in my book...no splatter or any of that stuff.

Either way, the manifold is machine welded, probably. So, of course, the welds on J's exhaust (hand welded) aren't going to look like that!

with such precision required to weld that im sure they used the tig process and that does not have any splatter.

if the guys at j's have been in the welding game long enough their weld will look like machine welds. welding on small diameter pipe is difficult so i think the weld quality is good.
p.s. welding is my profession.
