MT mpg Reports?

Hello! I'm getting my FIRST new car (09' FIT) next week, Taffeta White Sport MT =P The dealer has them coming in AT and MT next week for me since I put down $800 already (refundable) ^_^

I'm really interested in the MT mpg (mainly Highway) but I can barely find any report on Sport MT, MOSTLY AT which isn't what I want. I hear MT does better on the road, but what are you guy getting on the Freeway for MPG?

I drive 90%FW/10%Local 80miles home to work round trip daily.

Get the tranny you want if you are 90% Hwy. The reason the AT gets a bit better mileage is that it can supposedly manage the shift sequence more economically than you can. If you're spending all of your time in 5th gear, what's the difference?

AT has slightly better highway MPG because it is geared lower.

In our MT sport we've been getting 33-36 city, 37 highway on the one trip we took with lots of camping gear.

I get 37.5 mpg in my manual sport without trying. I travel about 70% highway averaging about 70mph. I'm sure I can squeeze 40mpg if I tried.

Is that based on the mpg meter, or math at the pump? My mpg meter claims 40-41 hwy (AT), but math says around 33-34. Pretty big difference, IMO!

My Sport Manual Transmission is averaging 35 - 37 mpg (computed manually - the computer typically says around 41mpg) driving about 50% city 50% highway. Even if the automatic transmission gets an extra 1 or 2 miles per gallon on the highway I'd still get the manual because of the "fun factor"!!

On the one tank where I probably drove 90% highway I was averaging 42 mpg (computed manually)

+1.

Go with the MT. I didn't want to have to compromise when I went from 190hp to 117hp and I don't feel like I have. I am getting mid-30's with more city miles than highway.

Thanks for your input, sorry I forgot to mention to clarify if your MPG is manually calculated at the pump or the Computer(BSM). I have been reading up that Manual is geared lower but loses less power but still efficient where the AUTO loses power to the trany torque converter where the gear is higher but still lower MPG than MT.

Please state your driving style too...

-MPG: Manual calculation or Vehicle Computer
-Average High Way Speed
-Driving style
-Transmission: AT/MT

315-330 miles per tank. I don't try to get good mpg... just drive normal. The other day I dropped into 4th @ 75mph to pass some slower traffic. I loved the sound of the rev'd out engine....

MT all the way.

Please don't tell me you are still in the break in period. You didn't stand to gain much from shifting at that point did you?

I feel CA gas differs than other states...or drive habit...+ traffic.

Of course I'm not in break-in. I gained quite a bit of acceleration since I was squeezing into faster moving traffic. Plus it was fun. I don't do it every day.
