Any problem with 205/50-16's on Stock Sport 16" Alloys?
Just found a great deal on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's from Tirerack ($56 each on closeout, plus a $50 discount!) in 205/50-16's (only 0.75 mm shorter than the 185/55's).
Anyone gone to 205/50-16's on the stock 16" Sport alloys? I can't imagine there would be any problem with clearances, or the pressure sensors, etc., but it's worth asking before I complete my order. TIA. UPDATE: Cost from Tirerack for this deal is $224 + $44 shipping -$50 rebate = $218 delivered. |
I was considering the same size. Tnkgrl was also considering that size but went with 195/50/16 on the stock wheels. I can't find her post that stated why she went with that size. Her 07 had 205/45/16 on HFP wheels.

No, 0.7 mm is essentially the same sidewall height. Different tire brands/models of the same size can differ much more than that. Then add in your normal tire wear which reduces height as well. Obviously the 205/50 size won't show ANY difference to the eye. But the 205 size is 2 sizes wider. Tnkgrl said that the 09 Fits have less wheel well gap, which is one of the reasons she went with 195/50. The 205/50 may rub when you turn the front wheels.
We need clarification from her or someone else who's upsized. |

FWIW, I went ahead and ordered the 205/50-16's, it was just too good a deal to pass up. From what I could see, the Fit has gobs of clearance and should be able to handle a tire that's fatter by 1.0 cm on the inside and the outside. I'm going to store these tires until I need them, so I'm hoping to see some info by the time I'm ready from someone else who has tried it out.

are you simply installing the wider tires for look or are you unhappy with the factory tires? |
I had those tires in 17 on the Subaru's summer rims. LOVED them.

The tread corner will be 10 mm (3/8") closer to the fender arch but on the 09 we see here that fits without interference. You can measure that with a ruler. The .75 mm number is half the diameter difference which means the Fit rides .75 mm, or 1/32" higher than stock . Never see it. On the stock 16x6/53 rims they should fit OK. Just to be clear, this applies to 09, not 08 and prior Fits ! |

BTW, when I looked yesterday, they've dropped the price from $56 to $49 a tire! With the additional $50 rebate, it's an even better deal. But, there's a catch - on my receipt in email, I see that these tires are listed as "2004 production" - they're four years old. IMO, that's the limit of how old a tire should be considered to be "fresh'. As a result, I'm going to put my on immediately and store my OEM set. Others out there may want newer production tires, 2 years or less. Caveat emptor.

FYI, the tires arrived yesterday. As soon as I find a place to mount and balance them, I'll post some pics showing the clearances. I agree with mahout, better dry grip, but these particular tires have superior wet grip, too. Ice and snow? Forget it! And yes, they will lower the mileage, as they're heavier (acceleration losses) and wider (more wind resistance). I'm also hoping the wider, more sticky tires will help reduce stopping distances, something the Fit needs help with.

animes2K, FWIW, you might want to get them and hang on to them, anyway. They've dropped the price to $49 each, plus a $50 rebate on purchase of 4. Shipping by UPS to my house was $44, so after rebate, the total cost is only $190, hard to pass up!
