Disabling automatic AC on defrost

07-08 Fits ac defrost isn't controlled by computer, so no. Try this

Well. this IS exactly what is going on. I thought I was going crazy.
When I have the defrost on, it uses the damn AC.

I tried the ignition/button trick and it didn't work for me. I'm going by the dealer today to get some wiper blades I'll ask them about it then.

Geez! Why do you need to ask the dealer anything? Read this thread. It answers your question exactly.

awesome mod. it was a b*tch getting that low to see the connector, but i'm a big guy. works perfect thus far.

it's always pissed me off that the auto manfacturers do this, i can see having it come on automatically if you turn to defrost, but why not give us the choice to disable it by pressing the a/c button off?

Have any of you folks beem able to reconnect this thing, being that the entire assembly doesn't pop out (as in the GD).

I'd like to disconnect also, but if it requires heroic measures to reconnect (anything more than a long pair of needle-nosed pliers), I might just pass.

Most of the time having the compressor run helps to keep my windows clear in cold and precipitation, but sometimes it's just plain unnecessary.

i think it would be pretty difficult to get re-attached, like stated before a very thin pair of needle nose might be your best bet... it might be easier to take off that part of the dash to do so.

If you really need to re-attach it, you can. I see no reason to do that because you can always just click the AC button.

Re-attach wires

I believe you can remove the Radio and your wires should be visible. Removing the Radio on the GE8 is very easy, there is one screw from the bottom by the Air Recirculation slider.

would it be possible to be more clear as to which part of the panel to "pull" from??? i've attemp to try this but the panel is in there solid!!

dont want to break the panel..

could someone explain the exact precedure? ie. "start from the part nearest to the power socket or from above??"
plus i see screw holes in the pic!!! does that have anything to do with it?? thanks..

^^^^^ pull on it from the bottom. it's very though trust me.
i did it and while doing it i put a scratch on it.
pull out from the bottom and it should come out
with some brute force.

I used the right end of this tool to pry the cover from the back edge:



Then the left end worked perfectly to unplug the connector.

Just did mine. Work from the passenger side (North American). A tool like the one Virtual used would be perfect, but anything rigid enough and with an elbow in it will do to easily remove the panel. I used a tiny hex key, and worked from the bottom of the panel. Had it off in seconds with almost no force. The switch is on the driver's side, but find it by looking from the passenger's side. The connector on the back of the switch is rather large--maybe a bit more than an inch long--white, and has two wires coming from it. Just take a smallish screwdriver and gently pry it away from the back of the switch and you're done. Many thanks to Roger's Fit (Btw, how on earth did you know to do this? Or should I not ask.)
