For people that is waiting for update.

It's a long on going progress for my insurance company.
Here is the update that I got from them yesterday.
They figured out who own the truck but they still trying to find insurance information for that guy.
According to the insurance lady, She can't find any insurance information for that truck and there is a big chance that it doesn't have one.

Her advised is to just make a claim under my comprehensive coverage.
They will reimburse my deductible if they managed to get that guy or his insurance to pay.

Sounds like I'm out of luck (and $500) if the driver of the truck doesn't have insurance.

Well, that's good and bad. You could probably do a Small Claims Court kind of thing for the deductible.

It's cheap, and since you have photos, ought to be in your favor, so you would not be out the deductible in the long run.

Basic info here:
Cases - District Court - Courts - Clark County Washington

Yes, I have done a Small Claims Court thing myself, and I did win.

Thanks for the suggestion I will use this as last resort if the truck driver does not have insurance or not willing to be responsible.

Not sure what's going on with my luck this month..
I finally use the Fit again yesterday (first time after the gravel accident) and got a weird accident happened to it.

I went to Walmart with my family yesterday and when we got out we found the cart return station across the the car broke/collapsed and a line of 4 carts resting along my rear passenger door and quarter panel.

Didn't see any dent last night but there are 2 long scratch marks on the door. One for the whole length of the door. Talked with the management at Walmart and they told me to have my insurance company contacted them.

Hope these 2 incidents would raise my premium.

That's the bogus thing about insurance, no matter what ur premium gets raised if you report it to them But I wish you all the luck and hopefully nothing else happens.

Update.
Took the car to Leif's (Insurance most hated body shop) last week for an estimate.
And the initial estimate comes back a little over $3,300.

I was shocked..I guess it's expensive when they have to repaint regardless of the damage. The rock chips are small and only damaged the paint (didn't see any dent).

I feared the invisible shield on the hood didn't really do a good job. Saw a couple of spots under the film that might be damaged also. No rip on the film but looks like the paint flakes off. I'll know more when the film is removed.

I will add this and a couple of other issues to my review on the invisible mask.

I feel your pain my BBP's fog light just broke and when I was detailing it the other night found some chips on the hood. I was depressed all day. I also have developed a small chip on the front window but don't think it will be that bad.
The sad thing is those that don't have common courtesy don't have insurance either. Almost lost my best friends cousin from a drunk driver without insurance and the police are not doing enough to enforce insurance laws!

that's infuriating. road rage was totally in order. no court would convict you.

wow, so these invisible mask film didnt help much huh? over 3k of repair bill just for the cosmetics? very upsetting. i was thinking about the films myself but i now just don't see it as worthy. i will use these films to cover the fog lights. that's easy to do and very very cheap.

It depends on the quality of the film and the size of the rock. The film will prevent most chips on rocks/debris that are kicked up on the freeway. If the truck was carrying gravel large enough to chip window from a drop... Well, think of it this way: Most freeway debris is kicked up by a tire, and so is sent to you at speed similar to the rotation of the tire, and is compounded by your forward velocity. Fast. If the rock slid off the truck, it's speed was less than the forward travel of the truck, but still had velocity in the same direction as the Fit. So, if a rock like this chipped a window, it must have had some size/mass much larger than what the film was designed to encounter.

The 3K quote is just for damages around the invisible mask. But there are at least 5 bigger chips (went through he paint) above the mask.
Considering the slant on the hood you might want to consider a full coverage kit if you are thinking about getting one...not an option at the time with invisible mask.

My X-pel kit actually lasted more than 3 years before I got a couple of rips on it (No more rips until this day). But I got it from rocks kicked up from a truck and both of us were driving "a little bit" fast.

It's sad to see that my few months old BBP got more rock and glass chips in one day than my 7 years old IS3

The claim processor told me yesterday that they still unable to contact the owner of the truck. She also told me that for sure the truck driver doesn't have insurance and his address is non existence.

So now I have to decide whether to claim it under my comprehensive or not. If I didn't got laid off recently I might go for the $500 deductible but with how hard it is now to find a good job makes it really hard to make that decision.

Sorry to hear about these incidents. I try to keep the habit of staying back from vehicles in front of me. It has other benefits such as less chance of rear-ending them in emergency braking, or needing to and causing some inattentive driver behind me from doing the same to me.

Also I'm careful when a truck or any vehicle towing something merges onto the highway in front of me. When they get up to hwy speed, it's the ultimate test of whether whatever they're hauling is secured enough. I either change over to the other lane or stay back.

On a side note, I know the Fit is sporty and I have a hard time not revving the engine, but during rush hour drives, it's hard NOT to gun it and keep close to the car in front of me. But I recall studies that traffic congestion is worse when everyone guns it and then slams brakes to keep a small gap between cars. Traffic flows faster when there's more gap between all the cars. It allows "breathing" room.

I should add that I don't keep a constant gap in front of me. If they start breaking 50 ft in front of me, I start breaking, but more gradually and closing that gap, and then when we get going again, I slowly resume the gap. Keeping a constant gap annoys people (including me) and gets plugged up by the caffeinated drivers.

Pretty much an accident, single vehicle. I was driving to work, cruising up the Interstate at 70MPH, with thunderstorms in the area. I encountered light-moderate rain and was just starting to get some patches of hydroplaning. Before I could really back off the speed (without using the brakes), my car started drifting SIDEWAYS. Not like changing lanes and pointing the nose, I was pointed straight ahead, in the left lane, but hydroplaning sideways. I missed a couple of road signs on the edge of a road, getting blown sideways as I went down a fairly steep hillside. Went over a 'berm' parallel to the road, was still driving and thinking I might come out alright. Just had to get past the next berm I saw coming up. Turns out that berm was a six foot cut through rock for the service road along the interstate. Ended up going over it, still moving forward, onto the the right side.

After a mighty crash, it took me a moment to realize that I was no longer upright, but could see mud and grass through my passenger window. Next thought (OH SH*T!), as I smelled something burning and saw smoke in the air, was the car was on fire. Then realized that the driver's airbag and the right side airbags had gone off; no fire. Proper seatbelt use and airbags . . . I walked out with very minor injuries.

Minutes after I went off, a full-size SUV did the same thing, about five feet from where I went off the Interstate. The only thing that kept them from coming down on top of me was their hydroplaning already had them sideways as then went off, so they went almost straight down the hillside, instead of at a long angle like I did.

We later found out that this storm developed 65MPH straight-line winds, which did tremendous damage along the storm front. Combine that with a 60-70MPH forward speed and a little hydroplaning . . . well, that's all she wrote.

Totaled the '08 Base Fit. It's been replaced with an '09 Fit Sport and a little more caution while driving in severe storms. These great little cars are light weight and have a considerable side profile. Of course, the larger/heavier SUV did the same thing. Ironically, I had to drive the same road to work this morning, through more thunderstorms. Sigh.

Cheers!
