alpine double din installed

As others have already stated, I had to fashion my own brackets but I think it looks pretty good.

Looks nice!

Did you add any amp(s)/sub(s) to the system?

n00b question here, but everyone keeps saying "modified the bracket" and no one ever says how. If you have time, can you describe what exactly you did to the bracket, how long it took, what tools you needed, etc? What bracket did you start with?

Thanks!

Awesome!!! I believe this is the right spec sheet: Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - IVA-W505/P1
I like how it shows the album art etc. and it says you can watch your video's on there too!

Only thing about Alpine is "everything's an option" as far as extra options are concerned. I still love em' tough...I own two single-din Alpine's. But they do give you a nice, large screen.

Nice job, looks great!

Thanks for the comments guys. I plan on adding an amp and sub soon but I cant decide which amp I want to go with. I was thinking of keeping it all Alpine and adding the PDX5 which is a five channel amp. I like it because its small enough to fit under the seat and will power the four door speakers and a sub.
I saw the thread with the small sub in the spare tire and Im keeping that as an option. Too bad JL doesnt have a stealth sub for the GE yet.

Thats one of the reasons why I choose this alpine unit. I live in Hawaii and have no real "need" for navigation. If I drive around long enough I'll eventually find where Im going. Would have been nice to have bluetooth and I might still add that module at a later time...

Here are some pics of my homemade bracket. Its not pretty but it gets the job done. There is no stock bracket that can be modified. You just have to be a little creative with some sheetmetal and bend till it fits.

Good to see another Hawaii GE8 owner here! Yay!

Nice head unit! I wish I had extra money to spend on something like that...

thats sweet. i like your home made bracket. very creative.
+reps to you sir.

by the way how do you like the picture so far.
it's the best. there is no other screen that can compare
at all.
what are your opinions on the unit so far?

The screen on it is really sharp. I have a Kenwood 8019 in my other car and I think the picture on the Alpine is far nicer. I also like the controls and interface on the Alpine better. Its much more user friendly then the Kenwood. I cant really tell if it "sounds" better than the stock unit. Im still running the stock speakers but Im thinking of switching those out for some DLS components soon.

I had an Alpine PDX5 installed under the drivers seat. Its a five channel amp that fits perfectly under the seat. With the seat in my driving position, the amp isnt visible at all.

Anyone know how deep the front and rear doors are? Im trying to figure out how much space I have available for new speakers. How deep can I go?
Thanks for any input.

Yep, looks awesome! I'm going to try my best to get the most out of my stock navi for now, seems like such a waste to rip it out so early in the game! Although I'm sure it's worth it when you consider something like this Alpine! Does GPS and all that still work? Can it real album art from USB as well, or is this functionality exclusive to it's iPod connectivity? I would probably just try and sell my stock Navi on eBay or something to try and recoup the costs invoved....wonder what these would fetch $$ on there?

Looks great!
How is the Ipod interface? Can you search through artists without taking a week to go A to Z?
