i got 37mpg on my last 2 tanks (i'm only on my 3rd tank of gas on this car) and that's 90% city (that includes highway, but it's usually always bumper to bumper when i do drive on the highway) and 10% cruising on the highway.
something sounds really wrong to get 22mpg
flat tires? bad math? someone stealing your gas? wife taking undocumented drives?

 

My fit got really bad gas mileage for about the first 1000 miles. Now I'm up to 34 driving like I stole it lol. Give it a little more time.

 

Are you smashing it? I don't see how you can get it that low. I don't even get that low MPG on my Integra when I smash it.

 

Most of us here are getting way over 30 mpg from the Fit right out of the box. Somethings amiss.

 

I warm my car up for 10 minutes before leaving my house in the morning and definitely don't drive conservatively. I do stupid stuff like floor it off stop signs and traffic lights. 100% non-highway, 28mpg. I do 35mpg on the highway with cruise, and when I tried light hypermiling I was around 38 local. You're doing something wrong.

Are you running the compressor? That will kill the gas milage in a little car.

 

Using the A/C will not kill your milage. Unless your car is parked.

 

im in suburban nj.

in-town driving (lots of stops and starts) i get about 25 mpg.

roundtrip to work which is mixed driving but still includes 42 traffic lights (round trip) i average about 31.3 mpg.

on the new jersey turnpike i average around 35.2 mpg.

my worst tank average was 29 mpg.
my best tank avarage was 33.5 mpg.
for the life of the car (3500 miles) ive averaged 30.5 mpg.

i definitely got a jump in gas mileage by using cruise control in dynamic way.

for example, if you start from a green light, and anticipate you will reach 40 mph, accelerate from 0 to 30 using your foot.... but then engage cruise control, and tap up to 40 mph using cruise (one tap on the excel button = 1 mph increase).

also when traffic ahead is slowing, and you need to brake... dont use your foot. just hit cancel on the cruise. then when you're equal to the flow of traffic re-engage cruise control. in general, unless you have to brake hard, dont use the brakes... just hit cancel on the cruise. in non city driving it radically reduces the amount of times you press the gas or brake pedal and adds extra mpg.

 

This is m best MPG!

 

If you hand calculate the MPG, that would give you the actual MPG. The digital is 3-4 +,- off.

 

yea, that thing is way off. it's been telling me consistantly 40-41mpg. when doing the math, i was at 37mpg both times.

 

Thats still about 43-44 mph...still good!

Im in atlanta in the same boat; just not as extreme. I get 27-29 mpg, the guage says 31-33mpg. I expected more like 35mpg. The best ive ever seen the gauge was 36mpg right after i filled up and reset, i drove on the interstate about 15 miles and was intentionally super easy on the throttle. Then I went back to driving normally, and it of course dropped back to the mid 32 mpg range. When I calculate by hand, I keep getting high 20s. Im going to get thru my first oil change and see if anything changes. It shouldnt, and if it doesnt, I will tell the dealer to look at it.

 

I want to focus on another aspect of this topic. I've only had my car for 1000 km (625 miles) but when I fill up, my own fuel consumption calculations do not match that of the trip computer's average. For example, this latest fill-up, I fill to the top as I always do, and then reset the trip odometer. The computer says I've been doing 5.9 L/100km (40 mpg) when in fact, I've been doing 6.8 L/100km (34 mpg) if I divide by the amount of fuel I fill with the number of kilometers driven. Btw, I've been doing half highway and half city driving. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

I have one theory. It is that the trip odometer's computer doesn't take into account idling time when it calculates its average because it always says 0 L/100km when I am at a red light. Obviously, the engine is burning some fuel when the car is stopped. Now, has anyone just driven this car a full tank on the highway without stopping? (I know, that would be tough) I wonder if the averages would actually match up with the correct values.

 

i just did a manual calc... i got about 31 mpg average of city hwy traffic...

it's not worth sweating to see how long i can make it with that E light on...
