It was Raining today while i was driving on the freeway. And apparently a little pebble sized rock hit the very left side of the my windshield. And it made a huge long crack. I did not notice it till i went to fill up my Fit with gas when i saw this huge long line across my windshield. I am really sad right now. I put tape over it to it wouldn't get contaminated.

Does anyone have any suggestions to what i should do? Should i call Honda to see if it is under waranty or get it replaced by Honda or Call one of those windshield repair shops to fix the crack with a sealent?

The crack is in the line of driving vision for me. What should i do??

 

Is is chipped at all from the pebble? If it's just a crack you can try the dealer and they might determine it to be a stress crack. Otherwise you're outta luck.

 

Undoubtedly, Honda will do a "pen test" along your crack to find an impact point, and return a verdict of not covered under warranty.

There's no sense taping over the crack, long cracks are not repairable, only quarter sized starlet cracks.

Sorry, but your ONLY option is a windshield replacement, whether through your insurance or "out of pocket".

 

Make sure if you take it to a windshield shop for repair that they realize the windshield is not the same as the 07-08 Fits. Heard a few horror stories on that already.

 

The '09 windshield is quite a bit bigger, and probably somewhat more expensive. Many insurance comprehensive coverages will pay all, or all but a small deductible.

 

hopefully your insurance will cover it, mine does.

It has happened to me on 2/3rds of the cars I have owned.

In my cases it is usually uncovered gravel trucks, they ought to ticket more of those bastards

 

If you have comprehensive on your insurance, for most it is a $100 deductible......
Most insurance co. will want you to use their "in network" glass shops.....you may have to pay in addition to the deductible if you want to have Honda replace it.....

 

Just get it done out of your pocket. It should only cost $2-300 and it will keep your insurance down. I got the windshield replaced on a 2004 accord and it was only $250.

 

using comprehensive shouldn't increase your rates

 

exactly, I ask my agent every time I need a windshield, they always guarantee my rates wont be impacted in the slightest.

 

Yeah. I had that happen to my Grand Am (Dont Laugh). Cost me a $50 deductible to replace the whole windshield. Dude came to my apartment and did it right there. Havent had a problem since.

That sux. I feel your pain just happened to me. I used one of those people that come to your house and replace the windshield. Total cost was 315.00.
My Brother gave me a hard time because it was after market glass. However my husband was quoted 550.00 for the Honda windshield except the glass guy would not guarantee it if it broke while he was putting it in. I told my husband that since its a small car and the windshield is so big we can get the Honda one next time. They look identical except no Honda emblem on the glass. I have used this person before and have been extremely happy with his work.

I'm in the same situation. I posted a pic and talked about how it happened in the 2009 tint thread. Since the 09's are a new model and it's the first year, the glass is hard to come by. The dealership quoted me $800 including labor. Safelite quoted $1000. The cheapest from local repair guys I've called is $389. It's still not fixed because I decided to just take it to the dealership and have insurance pay for it. I'm out of town now, but I'm going to set up an appt to get it fixed next week.

 

800$ including labor?! What a difference between the US and Canada. I was quote 1400$ just for the glass and it included a small rebate (dealer's garage discount). I'll probably bring it into the dealer next week and see what they can do about it (... warranty... fingers crossed)

 

It might be worth going for a road trip stateside.

Someone just said "local repair guys I've called quoted $389".

 

Yesterday, due to extreme wind condition, my windshield too got cracked, which I noticed today morning. I went straight to my Honda dealer and got no help as they told me the cost will be around $1000CAD and will have to wait will they get the stock. So I called my insurance and got next day appointment with insurance company's recommened network shops to replace the entire windshield.

 

Finally had my windshield replaced. Here are some pics from the install and I'm posting a few questions and my answers to help others out.

Insurance paid approx $800, minus my deductible.

No Honda sign, but there's lettering on the passenger side near the small wiper blade. My glass was made by PGW. Everything about the windshield is as if it came from the factory, except this particular piece of glass was made by PGW. I'm sure they have several glass manufacturers making their windshields. Honda outsources parts like every other manufacturer. As long as your windshield repair company orders the right part number, you'll be fine. Safelite picked up the glass and new molding from the dealership and came out to my place.

With the exception of the glass manufacturer, yes.

The new glass has the mount already glued on for the rear view mirror, so you just pull your old one off and put it on the new windshield, it slides right on.
