Ack.. I think I will see if I can cancel my order then and we will pursue the trailer hitch method. Thanks for the info!

So... any idea what a roof rack would do the mpg? In a car that deals with aerodynamics so much, and doesn't have a lot of horsepower, i could see it really hurting the mpg.

It will definitely hurt the MPG. I noticed around a 5mpg difference in my Subaru on highway trips.

I canceled my order and will probably go with the hitch and the Saris Thelma.

See the whole point is... No one can get it yet. But yeah if anyone can get something that is not available yet and take a hit on shipping it to me I would be down for that too!

Hmm - cool. The local people here said yesterday they are still backordered from the manufacturer when we stopped in to ask. Would have thought that if they were actually out, one of the people here in this thread w/ active orders would have said something about getting them.

I missed my friday call last week. As far as I know they are still not available. You might have seen one but it might have been a fit kit from prior year. Not sure.
Backorder just means they do not have them in the warehouse. They have never had them in the warehouse. LOL
I am down for extra $$ too if you have one to spare LOL

Inno rack installed

i couldn't wait for the thule to become available so i went ahead with the off-name-brand Inno rack. They installed super easy, look just like the thules and support all the same add-ons (plus they're cheaper). as seen, i also have the thule brand surfboard mounts on there.

Rack attack is having a sale until May 31. All Thule 20% off.

They say the 2199 fit kit and 400xt foot pack are in stock.

I just ordered. UPDATE: I just got an email the fit kit is out of stock but the CSR says their restock order is expected in 7-10 days.

Weird. The guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about. He said they had sold the last of that kit this morning. Guess I'll find out next week

Most of the people I asked said it was in stock, even though I specified 2009 Fit, they still looked up the previous generation. Each time, after clarification and sometimes re-clarification that it was the new, different, 2009 model, I would hear "oh yeah those are not available yet." Since half the people told me they had not shipped from Sweden yet and the other half (including my local retailer) said they are not made in Sweden but here in the USA, anything could be possible. We have decided to wait until we find "something" in stock that we can buy, and take home that day. No more of the waiting since we waited for 2 months last time and still don't have racks......

Thule USA expects a shipment from Sweden late this week or early next week. I've had REI special order a kit for me. We'll see how quickly it comes in.

For what it's worth... I've been told that there were two "pre-shipments" of 2199 fit kits for those who had pre-ordered. These were limited shipments, occurred sometime last month, and were almost completely spoken for. The shipment that's coming in this week is the first "official" shipment for retailers.

Talked to REI, fit kit will be arriving Monday. Talked to Thule before that, and as of today they have 48 kits in a warehouse in Connecticut, with a "massive" shipment coming "probably next week". Who knows what that means in Thule-time, so contact your dealer ASAP if you want one.
